Hi. Had TAH and rectocele repair on 1/13. Been back to the ER 3 times since then. First with thrombosed internal hemorrhoid (pain was so bad I fainted.) Then with staining. Tonight again, day 9, with real red blood staining. Got the bowel moving right finally and the thought is that all this pooping is making the internal wound leak a bit. I had an ultrasound and everything checks out ok, but I'm kind of sick of the tumult. I'm taking no pain killers for the hysterectomy, it's all this auxilliary stuff that's driving me crazy. Anyone else having spotting? Bowels back to normal after TAH. Love to hear if anyone's had similar experiences. Even with all this I'm still happy I did this. I am already peeing less. Thanks, Sarah

Hi Renee! Thank you so much! How wonderful that you've made a career in helping the youth. That is fantastic! Best wishes to you, and I hope this finds you well and at peace.

Wanted everyone to know that I added a thread to our pre op sisters to check out the progress report threads for comfort.

I'm going to write my hyst-story today, too. I need to do that.

Peace and love!

Gosh Sgreen. I know others have had spotting, I have not thus far (fingers crossed). It sounds like you did the right thing to ease your mind by seeking treatment.

I hope you are feeling more peaceful today. Heal well.

Peace and Love,

Hello my post-op sisters!

Hi there,

I saw that the "talk" moved to work anxieties, I have been thinking very little about work, and I am liking this reduced responsibility VERY much. I work in application support in IT so I sit all day, plus an hour each way commute, and I am not looking forward to returning, but since I am the primary breadwinner in our family, I will have to. My boss has been really cool about all of this, he's more a a friend than a boss as I have worked for him for over 10 years. He let me take vacation time as I was maxed out so I didn't need to go on short-term disability. My friend from work called me today to see how I was doing and I told her that I really liked only having to worry about what to get out of the freezer for dinner as my major decision of the day! So I am using this healing time for brain relaxation time too! I am not going back until 6 weeks is up (2/18) and stressed that was tentative based on the doctor's opinion of how I was progressing (appt on 2/14). I don't want to push it. Everybody I spoke to that had a hyst said to take the full time.

I noticed that the "talk" was about incisions too. I do also have hardening up and down my vertical incision, so it sort of looks like very slight puckering. My DH and I joke that I have a Klingon belly. (for the Star Trek neophytes, those were the species of beings with this scar ridge looking thing on their foreheads.) I have also been putting vitamin E ointment on my incision. (available at a heath food store or maybe GNC)

I am 2 weeks post-op today! We had a snow day for school so I slept in until 9! I weighed myself today and I lost weight! So think of the naps as ways to lose weight! LOL.

I have been reading the post op for the sisters a week ahead of us and they have been helpful also.

DH and DD and DD's boyfriend finished putting together the new treadmill last night, so I will try to get on it later today or tomorrow. We dropped the membership at the Y the day before my surgery, we weren't going enough. So it will be good to get on the treadmill any time we want.

Thank you my sisters, if I did not have anyone to "discuss" this stuff with, I'd go bonkers. This is my first discussion forum.

Hey all, I know this will show my ignorance LOL but I was curious about the cuff I have read about so I read the Vaginal cuff thread. Now it has me wondering... I had read early on that some of you had packing in the beginning , wich was removed before you left the hospital.
Now my question is (since I never thought to ask the doctor)-- If you have a cuff do you have packing or do you have packing reguardless? Did everyone have packing or only some, and what were the circumstances??

The real reason I ask is because afteer the whole problem I had with the staples being left in 10 days too long, I am afraid to think that I could still have packing in there and be totally unaware. You would think if I had that my doctor would have asked if they removed it , but after this whole fiasco, I am wondering if another call to the DR office may be in order.

Please don't think I am nuts LOL I am sure you know how my mind is running laps inside my head right about now. LOL

Thanks gals.

Hi Friend07,

I did not have any packing. I actually haven't heard of anyone having any so I'm not sure under what circumstances they would pack after this type of surgery.

I would think that if you had been packed, it would have been removed almost immediately at the hospital by the nurse. I can't imagine that it would have been left any longer than that. Also, it seems logical that if there was packing left behind, there would be irritation and perhaps odor??

Hope this helps to alleviate some of the stress....

SGREENARCH - I can totally relate. My rectocle repair is what is causing me grief. I really think all my discomfort and pain is coming from that and not the TVH. As far as the bleeding they told me bright red is normal its the amount and length of time that you have bright red that you need to watch. If it is just like spotting before your period it is probably OK but if it last more than two days being bright red I would call. Mine was a bit more than spotting and was bright red for about 36 hours. It then since has been more of a port wine (brownish red) color and is still a bit more than spotting. It also has an off smell. I was told Monday when I requested to see my doc that it is all normal ONLY because of the rectocle repair. An normal TAH or TVH w/o the repair wouldn't experience this. She said it is old blood working its way out as those stiches start to dissolve. She said it could last up to two weeks. Hang in there. I know it sucks. I told her I wished I would have left the prolaspe alone. I know I will change my mind on that when I look back in 6 months but right now it is what is holding me back.

OH GOSH! no I didn't have any vaginal packing (swabbing) material in me for my TAH BSO. Yes it is understandable that you'd worry about that. I worried for weeks pre-op how the top of the vagina would be closed off, (I am into details) , but eventually realized that it just would not be left open into my body!

If you had your first post-op appt already, then they certainly would have taken it out already.

Since my dr's intern was taking off the covering off my incision the day after my surgery, (she had closed me up), I would think that they would have taken any packing out while in the hospital.

take care,
