inch by inch

Well, I was able to make it through sunday school and church today. One thing that helped a lot was I left the pantyhose at home! It took me awhile to find a skirt I could wear with knee-hi's. I really felt like an old granny but at least I was more comfortable. I was hurting by the time I got home but I felt like I made it past another milestone of sorts. Maybe next week I can make it back to the evening service, too.
Church is a very big part of my life and I have really missed it. I have several ministries that I am involved with that I have missed out on, too. I feel like I can be more effective, though in some areas because I understand more of what some people go through. I have some sweet widow friends that I am always on to because they don't ask for help for cleaning jobs that they can no longer do themselves. I understand now how hard it is to admit that you can't do something and how hard it is to swallow your pride and ask for help. I hope that going through this experience will not only be better for me physically but will make me a better person, too.

Hi there!

Purplefreak - you make a good point about having gone through this experience will have prepared you for service to others. Unless you have "been there" it IS really hard to help others that have been in the same boat.

As for the healing progress, I realized this morning that the Lord has made our bodies very resilient and able to heal, but not at the speed WE want. Just as He builds our character bit by bit, our bodies will heal with time on His time table. Take things slowly and use this time to cull out activities that may be worthwhile, but fill your plate too full. I do believe the Lord would like us to pour quality and depth into a few things rather than to be spread too thin among many.

I went out to dinner last night for a friend's birthday and I realized that I did not think (nor did my belly remind me) of the surgery the whole evening! I feel better about heading back to work on the 18th now. I do know I will be tired in the evenings, but that will improve over time. I most enjoy taking the time to do things at the speed for which I want to do them, (I am the slow and deliberate type), but I realize that I have always had that option all along and I should not let others make me rush through things.

OK - let me get off my soapbox now. I hope my silly musings will help you to stay slow as you return to your activities. You CAN determine how you will return! (maybe not when, but how!)

Hello Sisters, I had so much trouble putting this on my computer at last I can tell everyone of my journey! This site is great! I went from so nervous and scared to having a great return from the scare of cancer. When I was diagonised with uterine cancer I went from I'm ok to what will I do if I die. I am 60 yrs old and have a great family with 5 grandchildren. I am divorced, this was hard noticed that I did not have someone as a special person to share all this with except my hystersisters and my son. I did have a great surgeon and be sure that is something you have that will put your mind at ease. I had the tah on Jan 7th and had a tough time because of the anthesilogist. Had to numb my tongue to get the tube in my throat for surgery because of my sleep apena. That was the worst! The surgery was an abobinal cut and I did not need alot of pain killers, I hated the spa leg things, felt trapped. I had a roommate who was very ill and did not get much sleep even though I brought tape player one night went to family waiting room to sleep. I did so well sent home on 3rd day. Then I got urinary tract infection and the flu that was terrible was sick for over 10 days. Did go thru alot of restless sleepless nights and have the itchies which I am going to the Dr for. All and all I did very well. I give the glory to God they did get all the cancer and the wonderful surgeon. I look forward to my new beginnings don't want to go back to work but have to! I suggest to all have a good spiritual base, read the hystersisters and trust your surgeon! Then know God will be with you on this journey to help and comfort you! Love all of you!

Beautispirit! Your story was inspirational! Thanks for sharing it with us and I am praying for continued healing and success for you.

I will be going back to work cleaning houses next week (LAVH-BSO on 1/9.) I'm a little nervous about the lifting, pushing, vacuuming, etc. that I will have to do, but it's time to move ahead. (And our finances could really use a shot in the arm!) I will just have to go slow at first and remember I am not physically where I was before surgery.

It's frigid cold in Southern Indiana and we are looking at a major winter storm today and tomorrow. BRRRR!

Happy healing to all...

Beautispirit, welcome. What a gift that everything is OK. Those ladies that have the added layer of cancer to worry about with this surgery have our sympathies. This surgery is hard enough without that. You'll like the comeraderie you'll find with all of us. Keep letting us know how you're doing.

I have good news! I've been whining a lot and have been happy for all of you when I've heard about your fun ventures out of the house, but I've been a bit jealous and except for Dr's appts and an occasional emergency market run, I've hardly been out at all. I've had complications from the retocele repair as well as adventures with bleeding and infection and dizziness and I hadn't gone anywhere social or fun yet.

Well.... last night I got all dressed up in a formerly too small favorite black dress and went to the Bar Mitzvah of a good friend's son. Put on some make up (tons of blush to camouflage pale me!) and I have to say it was a big change from the sweats and granny panty flannel look. Kids and DH were speechless (worth it for that alone!) Friends were so nice and happy to see me out again. (Asked how I lost the weight. HA!) There was way too much standing around and I didn't join in in the dancing, but I still had such a great time. Another glimpse into normalness. Thank G-d for good friends and healing.

Today was a busy work day and I collapsed to lay down for '5 minutes' and awoke three hours later. Belly is swollen and sore today which I guess is payback but it was worth it mentally to be back in the swing of things, even if it was short. I am definitely feeling better (still have the smelly discharge but it is diminishing and is getting less smelly.) The body is truly amazing.

Just wanted to share some good news for a change!

Sarah

Oh Flub, I am so sorry! If it's not one thing, it's another, isn't it? I'll be praying for you. (I'm glad it wasn't a more harmful form of skin cancer.) I hope your healing will be quick.

Our snow has begun in earnest! We are supposed to get 3 to 6 inches, followed by a layer of ice! The kids got out of school early and I don't think they'll have it tomorrow, either. (Glad I went to the grocery store this morning!) Looks like we will be snowbound for a little while.

Beautispirit, I will need to call all the folks back in St. Louis and compare weather notes! Everyone stay warm.
