Ok when does the insomnia go away?

HRT is suppose to help. But it takes awhile for your hormones to balance out. Especially when you have had a TAH-BSO and prior to surgery your had a normal 28 day cycle and not yet into menopause like I was. I know I am still not sleeping very good yet, but it takes quite a bit of time. My doctor prescribed 6 months worth of Lunesta about a month ago. We are now waiting to see how I balance out. I am hoping at some point I will sleep normally. But spending the money on Lunesta is better than no sleep or having issues like I did with Ambien.

Ok when does the insomnia go away?

I asked my doc for HRT last week and she prescribed Estradiol (soy based). It at least seems to be helping with the night sweats. As for the insomnia I think it helps a little so far. I'm still taking the melatonin too. I was already starting menopause so my sleep wasn't the greatest any way before the SAH/BSO.

Ok when does the insomnia go away?

Between taking Melatonin and going back to work...my insomnia seems to be under control.

Ok when does the insomnia go away?

I had an abdominal hysterectomy. I still have my cervix and one ovary. When I was 3 weeks postop, I called in a pain pill refill and was told he doesn't refill pain pills 3 weeks out. So I tried to call my regular doctor. He was on vacation for a week. I called the doctor on call who told me that I had insomnia because of pain medicine withdrawal. He prescribed Ambien 5mg. It didn't work, so I looked it up and found that most people take 2 (10 mg total). I took 2 and slept for 4 hours. When I went for my 5 week checkup, I was the nurse practitioner in my OB-GYN's office. She told me it was a hormonal problem and put me on Vivelle patch (.325) She said it would take a while to work. I'm afraid of running out of the Ambien, so I take them sporatically. I have appointments with both OB-GYN and general practioner on March 13th. I can't wait to finally speak to my regular doctor. He knows me so well and I need sleep every night.

Ok when does the insomnia go away?

I started taking Estradiol a couple of weeks ago and my sleep has improved. It's totally hormonal if you ask me. I still have some tossing and turning but not wide awake for 2 or 3 hours like before. Good Luck!
P.S. I still have days of fatigue and found out that's normal through the HysterSister Newsletter. Thank God for them.

Ok when does the insomnia go away?

I would highly recommend the "chillow" product you can purchase at Hystersister's store. It helps me manage my hot flashes so I can sleep a bit more!

Ok when does the insomnia go away?

I have been having trouble sleeping as well. My Doctors office suggested the Melatonin, as well as Tylenol PM. I told them I don't like to take meds if I don't have to, and she said the best way to get some sleep with the last amount of medicine is to take Benadryl or the store brand of it. It works!!!

Ok when does the insomnia go away?

I tried the Melatonin and it didn't work for me. I tried the antihistamines and it put me to sleep but I still got up for 2 or 3 hours during the night. I guess you have to try until you hit the one that works for you. My previous post #57 explains the two types of antihistamines. The one like in Benydryl and the other in NyQuil. Unisom and the other OTC sleep aids have the one used in NyQuil and it made me groggy the next day as it takes longer to exit you system.
