Post Op doctor visits - how often?

If you don't have any problems after surgery, how often will you have to go to the doctor for follow up appointments?

I know that all doctors are different, but I just wondered what the "norm" is.

My only appointment is set at my 4 1/2 week mark.

Will he release me and then not need to see me anymore? Or will there be follow up appointments at different intervals?

I had TAH/BSO (no clue if he took my cervix or not!)

I am on some estrogen pills. Will I need to be monitored closely on that for a while?

Or will I be "on my own" after that appointment?

I don't know what the norm is, but I had only 3 post-op visits after a TAH/BSO--one minor emergency visit when my incision was bleeding a bit, one to have the staples removed, and then one final visit after which I was released....that was about 3 weeks after the surgery.

My experience (so far) is that as of the 6 week check-up I no longer need to see my GYN - unless I experience severe issues "there".

Otherwise my care now is in my GP's hands - while I will not have Paps I will still need Physicals including internals (beats biopsies) and she will help me monitor any hormone issues.

Hope that helps!

I had a two week check-up and then I had to go back two weeks later only because I had an infection in one of my incisions. Neither time did she do an internal exam, only looked at the incisions and asked me how I felt.

I went in a week after my TAH to get the staples removed (didn't even see the doctor, a nurse did it). Then had my 4 week post op and that was it unless I have issues or problems.

I had my one and only recheck yesterday at 5 1/2 weeks. I still have my ovaries, and she said that I only need to come in about every 18 months thereafter to have them checked, along with a breast check at the same time.

post op dr. visits

I have my first appt 5 1/2 weeks post op and don't know if I will have any after that, but I don't think so unless I have any problems, which I'm not anticipating.

I went to my GP 6 days post op to have staples removed and then to the Gyno
7 weeks PO (holiday's caused the delay) and that's it.

I only have one appointment scheduled and that is at almost 4 weeks. I go tomorrow and my surgery was 4 weeks ago this coming Monday.

Will he release me and then not need to see me anymore? Or will there be follow up appointments at different intervals?

I think your release depends on how you have healed when you see him.

I am on some estrogen pills. Will I need to be monitored closely on that for a while?

Not sure about the estrogen pills. I am on Vagifem to help thicken up my vaginal walls. Not sure how long I wil be on that. I will wait until my doctor tells me to stop.
