Struggling with my hysterectomy. (tearful and regretful)

I'm so sorry you are having such a hard time postop and regretting the surgery. It doesn't sound like you had planned on having your ovaries removed and waking up form surgery and finding that out was probably extremely shocking. Perhaps you just need time to adjust to that part of it. You probably had adequate time to prepare preop and accept that you were going to lose your uterus, but you never really got the chance to prepare or accept losing your ovaries?

I am just the opposite of you, I regret not begging my doctor to take out my ovaries. Why?
1. Because I still have constant pain down both sides of my pelvis, and it's getting worse every month. Now I spend my time worrying about what's going on with them and when I'll end up going back to the castle.
2. Because after reading the Operative Report, I found out that they saw endometrial implants again when they did the hysterectomy. So now, I worry about whether the ovaries are feeding those things and making them grow and spread.
3. Because at 8 weeks' postop, I started having hot flashes and night sweats regardless of having both ovaries. So even if do plan on hanging on to them and waiting for a natural menopause, it doesn't always work out. I'm 42 now and my doctor was hoping I'd make it to at least 45 with them.
4. Intercourse is still painful.
5. I still have insomnia.

I guess what I am trying to say is that keeping your ovaries may not have prevented you from going through some of the things you have been going through. Your physician chose one thing and mine chose another, and it doesn't sound like either one of us got what we bargained for in the deal.

It would have been nice if you could have had a say in whether to keep the ovaries or not and perhaps maybe that is where the regret comes in. It's your body and you didn't get to make that critical choice. I'm sure that's hard to understand and accept.

I do wish you the very best. I hope that you will be able to talk to your doctor and find a way to improve the quality of your life so that you no longer regret the decision to have surgery. We all care about you and want you to feel better.
