having to choose

I'm scheduled for a TAH + BSO this Monday and looking forward to it. My doc said he's going to put me on HRT while I'm still hospitalized and will ask me what I want. What in the world does that mean? The more I think about it the more confused I am. Does anyone know what he's going to be needing from me to get the process underway? Thanks.

Oh my what a choice you have!!! If you have not already done any reading you have your work cut out for you. I would suggest reading through as many posts as you can get through here.
I am not a doctor and we are all different but if I were to do it all over again here is what I would do. #1 Start with bio identical hormones. #2 If you can stick with whatever you start with for at least 4 weeks before switching #3 Use lab tests as well as symptoms to determine the need for changes or additions. Your hysterectomy will potentially affect your estradiol, progesterone, and testosterone production. Most women need to replace estradiol, some women need to also replace progesterone and testosterone. Unfortunately we are all different so there is not one formula that works for all. I guess if I had to recommend a starting place I would suggest either estradiol alone or a combination of bio identical estradiol and progesterone.
Now if I have not completely confused you, perhaps take a break from those thoughts and think about how you want to take your hormones. You can take a pill, use a patch, apply a cream, drops, gel or use a troche that disolves under your tongue.... Remember again there is no one right answer. Some things work better for some women than they do for others.
Please let us know if you have more questions
Best wishes
