Fear of the Bed...

I am terrified at the thought of getting up into my bed and actually lying down. So far I have only laid in the hospital bed and the recliners at home. I did lay down one time on the couch and it was a nightmare to get up - do not want to go through that pain again.

Anyone else deal with this and how did you overcome it?

Fear of the Bed...

My bed is really tall. I had to get a step stool to get into it. I made hubby help get me up and turn me over. The first two nights were the worst but after that it got easier. I am glad you made it through surgery and are back home.

Fear of the Bed...

I stacked pillows against the head of the bed, and then sat sideways, leaned against the pillows, and then removed them one by one.

As to getting up.....I rolled onto my side with a pillow pressed to my stomach, and then used my arm to push myself into a sitting position.

Fear of the Bed...

I would roll on my side and push my self up with my forearm and elbow. In fact, I got a little rough patch on my elbow from rubbing it on the bed. lol. The first few days were really hard. I just hoped I wasn't hurting anything. It has definitely gotten much easier now! Good luck to you.

Fear of the Bed...

I too would roll on my side and push up with my forearm and elbow. My bed is high so I got a step stool. It was actually a stool used for step-aerobics and it was great for getting in and out of bed. Feel better soon!

Fear of the Bed...

When I came home from the hospital I slept in an adjustable bed for almost 8 weeks! We had bought a new bed this past summer and thank god we kept the adjustable for our guest room! It has been heaven sent. I am at 11 weeks post op this Monday and every once in while I still sleep in the adjustable when I am sore. I still get sore getting in and out of the regular bed but am forcing myself to use it more. I too roll over on my side to get out of bed and wondering when I will be able to get out of bed normally! It is getting better each week! Everything else seems almost back to normal.

Fear of the Bed...

Our bed is tall so I had to have a stool as well. I used the top of the stool to haul myself out when I needed to. I did all of this VERY slowly and gently. As time goes on, it'll get a little easier each time. I still try to "roll" out of bed instead of just getting right up......it's been 3 1/2 weeks for me.

Fear of the Bed...

Bedtime was really hard for me at first. I wanted to get off my reclining loveseat and stretch out just a little. The first night I was stuck on my back yelling for my husband (and cursing--oops) My wonderful DR told me to take my heavy narcotic pain meds at night to help with all the bed manuevers. But for a few nights, my DH would help me get set, then--you guessed it--I would have to go potty!!

It does get better. I used lots of pillows and put a pillow under my legs so I could sleep on my back (I am a side sleeper and hated sleeping on my back!).

Best Wishes!!
