Yes, the gas pains are horrible. I too hang on to something to squeeze while the pain passes. I took 3 stool softners yesterday and nothing. I took 2 today and nothing. I finally took a laxative.. waiting to see what happens. Considering I've only had 2 pieces of pizza all day yesterday and basically nothing today - there isn't much to come out. I try to drink alot of water but it makes me gag. I too went out today just for a 15 min drive and forget it. Driving stick shift with a clutch is not a good idea. I'm only in day 9 of my surgery. I too always push myself but can't this time. No one really understands (co-workers) that this is not fun time off. It's a big recovery. I feel so tight in my belly. And I think part of reason why we have a hard time having a BM is because we are anticipating pain and so we tighten up (as in my case). Drink hot tea with lemon, which seems to break up the gas. Gas X helps a little.

Hey Denise,

I sometimes have trouble drinking water, also.

One thing that helps is I add a spritz of lemon juice or a green tea packet to it. Doing this you are still getting all of the benefits of drinking water, just not the bland of the water.
You can get the single serving packets of many different drinks now. I like the lipton green tea, and sometimes I buy the Crystal Light packets (the peach tea is the best ).

Another thing is there are the faucet mounted water filters that you can buy, and they have the 'flavor spritz' attachments that you can get to go with it. I do not have one yet, but when it's time to replace mine, I plan to get that one.

I hope that the remainder of your recovery goes smoothly.

Paula, Thanks so much for the reply and advise. I flavor the water with fresh lemon but still don't drink as much as I should be drinking. I've been eating yogurt since I don't have much of an appetite. My body is in shock from having organs removed (cervix, uterus, both ovaries and tubes) "a hollow shell". My stomach and intestines gurggle with gas. As it is I do suffer with mild IBS but this operation has really irratated it. How's the weather in Colorado? It's been strange here in FLA. warm and then cold (our cold is 60). It's nice to "speak" with someone who is recovery too.

Hi Alouise,

Good to hear I am not alone thinking about sex at this time. I have 5 weeks left and so looking forward to getting the green light from my doctor. In the meantime, I should just enjoy this time off work and plan for the 'day'. Take care,

Hi Chelle,

I think the doctors know what they are talking about when they say we need 4-6 weeks recovery.

It has been 9 days since my surgery and I thought I was okay. I had a SAH with abdominal incision. I went out with my friend for dinner yesterday and after 2 hours I was done. She was very patient , helping me to the car, to my house but today, I can barely move. I have cancelled all visitors as I do not have the energy to even talk to them.

Sometimes we think that we are superwomen. Please note that if something bad happened to you, your employer would send flowers and in the next few days hire your replacement. We are not indispensable..the show will go on. So take time to heal..work will always be there..there is only one of us, you, me........

My Dh decided it was time for a short outing tonight so we went out to dinner then a little shopping at the local target store My Father in laws 80th is tomorow and I had nothing comfy to wear and did not want to go in PJs or sweats luckily found comfy clothes but the only way he let me go is when we got to Target he dropped me off in front and then I drove one of those carts around the store I told him the DR said no driving LOL it was actually kinda fun was just glad no small children were hurt with me running around in the cart on a percocet. Now I am heading to bed very tired I could imagine if I had walked around the store. Still spotting a bit just using panty liners but need to change it every 2 hours or so. but decided to wait to see if it lightens by Monday as I do not want to miss this special occasion for my Dh hope this party is not too much taking a pillow to sit on and will have a blanket handy if I need to go to a corner and veg.

This is the very worse I've felt since the surgery. I had a terrible night. I could not sleep and was up often to use the bathroom. Once my DH turned the handle on the door to open it as I was reaching for it and I almost had a heart attack. I jumped out of my skin and my heart was racing for the longest time. He did hold me tightly for a long time when he came back to bed so I guess it was worth the scare.

I just feel blah. I have no pain but then I haven't had that to deal with ever since the operation. I just feel weird. I can't explain it. I hope it is just the gloomy weather and gray skies. I planned this surgery to coincide with the one or two weeks of "winter weather" that we get here but that may have been a mistake. My house has all windows on the back side so it is hard to hide from the gloominess out there. Most of my windows don't even have shades because they have been treated with a film to cut out the UV light. Oh, well, maybe it is just that my computer is sitting on the breakfast nook table instead of being in the computer room which has been under renovation since before I went to the hospital. It is coming along but still I have all of its furniture in the entance way and the house looks like it has been hit by a tornado. This is adding to my discomfort. I am "a place for everything and everything in its place" kind of person.

Come on out, Mr. Sunshine, I miss you.

I made my first trip out alone today!! Wahoo! I have a little red convertible Sky & it's been killing me that she's been neglected in the garage. My car is a stick shift so I was worried about how my incision would feel....but I ventured out for about an hour. Did some grocery shopping and hit the pet store. My incision hurt at first but was feeling fine by the time I got to the store. That short jaunt did make me a bit tired, so I'm going to grab my book and kick back now. The sun is finally shining here in Nebraska, so I'm heading to the light! I may have to fight the dog for the couch though!

I'm glad so many are feeling great now & I send out lots of hugs for those still struggling. Hang in there, it WILL get better!

Hey ladies,
Finally able to get upstairs (albeit 4 days earlier than the doc would like) to post for the first time since surgery. Surgery went well. The second postop day was horrendous due to a completely incompetent PCT and nurse who I swear were trying to kill me. Otherwise I got discharged one day earlier than usual (on postop day 2) and went home and since then have been doing great. BMs normal (keep taking those stool softeners and MOM) and other than a little gassy and a slight tenderness on one side of the incision, everything has been going remarkably well.

The best thing will be when it's time for what would have been my next period in Feb and lo-and-behold there won't be any need for my ever-present cache of Stayfree! Whoo hoo!
