Silver Nitrate- Is this PAINFUL?-The Truth Please??

I didn't even know about the silver nitrate, and was having the most comfortable pelvic exam that I'd had in years. Suddenly it started to hurt. The doc didn't tell me he might do this, so I suppose he decided to when he saw the tissue at the "cuff." It started to hurt more, and when he finally removed the speculum and I sat up I felt like I'd been abraised inside. It was a burning sensation. I told him I felt like I needed cold compresses. Then he explained that sometimes there polyp like tissue at the cuff, and that that tissue was "fryable" meaning that it can tear or split open easily. (Probably from taking Tamoxifen for 3-1/2 years, my "tissues" there are particularly thin and atrophic).

It burned all the way back to work, where I had to participate in a planning meeting for an hour. I had bronchitis and every time I coughed I needed to hold my crouch. (Fortunately it was unseen). I even walked strangely with very short steps.

Finally back at home, I SAT on a blue ice type of thing, out of the freezer. I did this twice in the evening for at least 30 minutes each time. It finally stopped burning about 6 hours after the application. I had a discharge similar to the 5th & 6th week post op, for about 1-1/2 weeks.

Silver Nitrate- Is this PAINFUL?-The Truth Please??

I just had my 7 week post op today and had to get the silver nitrate. It burned. It also feels crampy and heavy. I am resting now, but still feeling uncomfortable. I hope this doesn't last long.

I had 3 treatments of it and it burned each time. I was crampy for a while and had a greyish discharge for a few days.

Silver Nitrate- Is this PAINFUL?-The Truth Please??

I had one treatment at 5 week check up in March. It was a little uncomfortable with the internal check up. I did get some burning, but not anything too major. I did get a little bit crampy during the evening, I just kinda ignored it and it did go away before I went to bed that night. I had some gray discharge when I wiped after urinating but that was about it.

silver nitrate

everyone is right. I had the silver nitrate done today and after ready prior to me getting it done I was nervous. It's been 6 hours and I am still hurting. The initial part didn't, but we will see in the morning. The Dr said I had scar tissue and wasn't healing - 7 1/2 weeks out - complete hysterectomy. I was having intermediate bleeding that was the reason for the silver nitrate. Give it a try - especially if it helps the bleeding.

Silver Nitrate aftermath

Very Very cold compress at the base of the vagina helped me. It hurt for about 6 hours, but the cold relieved it. I'd just apply it again, when the burning started up again.

I had finished having a post-op discharge at the end of 6-1/2 weeks and was enjoying not needing any sort of pad. After the nitrate I had a minor discharge and had to go back onto panty liners for another week. I think my post silver nitrate discharge was longer than most - for another 1-1/2 weeks. Some gray but also some of the "latte" colored fluid, like after surgery.

I had it done a couple of weeks ago and had no pain whatsoever when he did it. I had some very mild cramping afterward and it didn't last long at all.

What do they use silver nitrate? For bleeding or burning sensation in pelvic area or both? I am having burning pain and how would i be able to tell if it was infection? I am almost 7 weeks post-op.

I was bleeding and having pain. My doctor said I wasn't completely healed. The best thing I can tell you is to call your doctor and tell them about it. They will do an exam and be able to tell if you need it.

I was given silver nitrate because some of the internal stitches on the vaginal cuff wasn't healing as much as the others. I haven't had any bleeding or discharge since day 2 of my surgery date. I am soo thankful for that and not having to use any pads for anything. I think the silver nitrate cauterizes the cuff, seems I read it somewhere, lol just cannot remember where
