pain meds resulting in constipation?

Those of you who are taking Miralax....do you only take it once a day?? or more often.
DH is gonna go get some for me later today.
So, I'm off the pain meds, and I'm uncomfortable because Motrin isn't really doing the job very well, but since most of my pain is from bowel discomfort....once this works itself out I think I'll be fine.
I'm gonna give the Miralax a try since, in the past, milk of mag has cramped me.

I think it says 17g once a day. Mine was prescribed for 17g 3 times a day, but my situation was a bit different. It got to the point that I didn't even measure and just dumped some into EVERYTHING that went into my mouth! You will feel so much better have a few good BM's.

Drink water and move as much as you can-

UPDATE!
Miralax is working like a dream!!!!
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!! to all who reccomended it!!!
I didn't have a bit of cramping, and although it wasn't what I would call comfortable to have a bm it was soooo much better and easier today than it has been!!

I told my friend that it's kinda silly to be getting so excited about something like this....but she understands because she's been through exactly what I am last year.

I'll be putting this on my reccomendation list...DEFINITELY!

YEAH!! I am so glad to hear of your relief!

If you will indulge me for a second--I had my tonsils taken out Thursday and had my first BM since surgery just today. I am so excited! I know it is a different operation but I knew you guys would appreciate my joy, too!

I am so glad that the Miralax is working for you! It does seem silly to be so excited about having a BM but I know exactly what you mean.

I too had constipation from Percocet and all the other "stuff" from surgery. Along with the stool softener and lots of water, I make sure to eat fruit, especially apples, along with fiber-rich cereal, prunes, and the occasional helping of canned collard greens and spinach. They make one a bit gassy, but are very helpful.

pain meds resulting in constipation?

Boy, it seems a lot of us are struggling. I ate fiber, bran, juices, fresh fruits, walked, walked, water, water, water. Stopped the Darvocet and switched to Motrin. Tried Senocot S, suppositories...all with no results and I am 5 days post-op. The only conversations my DH and I have are about my poohing. (Or lack of...) He stands outside the bathroom waiting every time I go in with this expectant look on his face. This is what I call a sound, solid marriage! We now look forward to celebrating our BMs! LOL!!!Started the Miralax today and if no results by tomorrow, will try a fleets enema. How miserable can a BM be?

I went almost a week, too, before anything happened. Really stressed me out, too LOL! Stressed out about a BM....sheesh! Who knew? One very helpful suggestion I gleaned from this site was not to strain at all. To let things move naturally so as not to cause more pain. It also helped to pick up my feet and prop them on something (about a foot high) in our bathroom. It is a new learning curve for me, but is working well.

One tip I found with the Fleet enema was to only use 1/4 of the bottle and try to "hold it in" First time using more of the bottle was a messy disaster. --ugh

I'm back to having BM but they're hard pebbles and today I didn't have one. My hubbie is getting me some Miralax tonight because of all I read about it on this site.

Re "straining" my dr said it is safe to "push like you're having a baby" --not that I'm giving that as medical advice (listen to your dr) but I was relieved when he said that because before that I was worried about hurting myself.
