You know Maume. I have a friend who had the exact same surgery that I had. Same Dr and Same Hospital. She was only in bed for two days and has been up since. Her recovery was one of the reasons I agreed to have mine done vaginally.
However after my surgery it has seemed like I would take two steps forward and three steps back. It got pretty discouraging for me.
I guess it's similiar to women and childbirth. My first labor took 36 hours while my best friends labor took about six hours.
We are all unique.
On a funny note get you a male porn magazine and ask your husband to compare himself to some of those pictures. I'm sure he will then realize everyone is different, hahaha I'm JOKING about this but wanted to make you laugh
I am praying for you Maume.

Kim,
I am so sorry that your hubby is being inconsiderate of your feelings. My husband is not helping a lot around the house, but nothing compared to what you are going through. I am so sorry that he has threatened you with finding somebody. Wow, how did you even react to that? I don't know if I could have kept it together.

Please know that I am here for you anytime!! Don't ever be ashamed to share your feelings here. We are all in this together. We are experiencing different things at different times, and it is helpful to know what the other is going through.

Keep your head up and know that you are beautiful person inside and out!

Take care!

anyone have arectovaginal fustula?

I was diagnosed a few days ago with a rectovaginal fistula. I have to see a surgeon/colon doc this afternoon. Just wondering how it's done, how long hospital stay is, if it works and how long til I can have intercourse after!
HELP, I'm a nervous wreck!!!!!!!! I've just had 2 surgeries in the past 6 weeks. I feel really good other than gas and occasional stool passing through my vagina. Nicole

Dodge- Feeling stupid here. What is that? How did you know it was happening? Did you have a poo smell from your vagina... Just curious. I have a horrid smell, when I called the doctor I was told it was normal at week 3/4. Maume told me she was also told it was normal as it was the stitches disolving.
Please let me know what it is. Again, I don't mean to sound stupid.

I'm sorry your husband is behaving this way. It is shocking to me, really. Please know that you deserve to recover on your own terms, in your own time. Get strong, get ready, then decide whether he is worth keeping around. When you get to Florida, park it at the pool like the girls said, with a book and a drink and make a plan. In the meantime, enjoy your son, try to gain strength. Ignore him. This is about you. If he wants to find a bunny, good luck to him. Just something else for you to add to the list of unacceptable behavior. You'll be in my thoughts....Honestly, just having him ask for "service" would be enough to make me hit him with Indio's bat.
Hang in there sister.

Nicole,
The fistula sounds gross! How did you know? I'm hoping your appointment with the surgeon goes well today. Let us know. Did they say how this happened?

Well I've had this yellow/brown discharge (sometimes it's light pink, sometimes it smells yucky and others it doesn't have a smell at all) since my first surgery on the 2nd. My doc thought it was just from the surgeries and he's cultured it 3 times coming back with just some yeast from all the antiboitics I've been on. The last culture a week ago came back with bacteria that is usually found in the intestinal tract. Well, I've also had gas occasionally come out of the front and he said that was from the hole he left at the top of the vagina and it would close on it's own. I had some diarreah Sunday and nothing came out the front when I would bare down, but all evening I'd get bubbles of gas out the front and I'd go check my pad and wipe clean and it looked exactly like the stuff I wiped in the back earlier in the day. Totally freaked out, I called Monday morning and he did an internal and he could see the fistual (an opening that forms between the rectum and vagina - can happen during any abdominal surgery, even childbirth. there is also one that can form between the vagina and bladder too) and the opening where there is stool. I have had diverticulitis in the past and I have a lot of scar tissue from it so he thinks maybe it could have compressed on top of it to cause this problem. I just hope my colon doctor can give me more answers today! I want to think positive but it's hard for me since I can't catch a break from all of this and now I'm looking at more surgery, more hospital time and recovery all over AGAIN. I'm scared something is going to happen to me, and I worry about my kids. I feel really good other wise, thought I was going to be ok from here. Thanks for answering and I'll let you all know later what I find out.

I am so sorry to hear that you are going through this. The reason I aske you about it is, because sometimes my discharge smells like poo-poo... I think after hearing this, I am going to call my doctor again. I too just had a bout of Diverticulitis last May. This was my first ever! I thought I was dying. I had never even heard of it before. I was sick for months and months from it. Sometimes I felt like if someone just ran me over I would feel better. I had a TVH and it sound like you had a TAH. Thank you for explaining this to me. I hope that all goes well for you. Please keep us updated on your progress.

My thoughts and prayers are with you!

NIcole~~ My goodness you have been through so much!!! I am so sorry and hope they can fix this fairly soon and that you are finally able to recover. I know it means more time back in the hospital and feeling like you are starting all over again, but you need to take care of you!!! I remember them stating that as one of the risks of things that could happen but we always pray that it won't. Sending you a Hug and let us know what the surgeon tells you!!!!

Kim~~~ I am sorry you are going through all this with your husband. Maybe your Doc should talk to him. You said your doc calls to check in on you on Fridays--could he talk to your husband too? Or talk to your doc about an appt and having your husband there and he could involve him and help him see the importance of you healing and that it takes weeks and sex would only screw (sorry) things up with recovery if to soon!!! I am so sorry. This kind of stress right now with you trying to be ok for the trip and your son!!! We would all like to take a baseball bat to your husband--hormones talking!!! Keep t alking. We are listening. YOu have been helpful to all on this board, so we can reciprocate!!! Hugs!!!
