How long till everything's back to normal?

Hi, I'm new to the group. I've been reading some of the posts for the last few weeks, but just joined up today.

I had a hyst in early November, in which the doc removed right falopian tube, cervix, uterus, and two cysts. The six week recovery time drove me batty, but I was happy when it was over and I had clearance to resume my life!

DH was happy as well, but I was somewhat disappointed with our reunion. In fact, since the surgery, it's not the same. It's not fun. 90+% of my formerly very sensitive receptors seem to be on vacation and I'm beginning to think they're never coming back.

I know this is a very, VERY personal question to start things off, and I apologize if I've offended anyone. Just kind of really depressed about the whole thing and am hoping for some insight.

Thanks!

How long till everything's back to normal?

Hi ilonwy
Welcome to Hystersisters! Please don't feel apologetic about your question. Because of the nature of this surgery most women are concerned about resuming their intimate relationships. I'm sorry you're having some problems and still experiencing a lack of sensation.

I'm not sure why some women experience this and others don't, but we're all different in how we heal and what we had done. I want to encourage you not to lose heart. Ten weeks seems like a long time, but you are still continuing to heal. It can take months before everything really is 'normal' again. Your ovaries may still be in a state of shock. It can take them a few months to adjust to the new situation in your body after the loss of your uterus.

I would encourage you to talk to your dr about this if it continues. Some women find the tissues and nerve endings take longer to heal and a little vaginal estrogen might help that process and get you back to feeling more normal. I hope you will find yourself waking up and experiencing the same responses here in the near future. Keep us posted on how you do and if your dr has any good suggestions for you.

How long till everything's back to normal?

Rita --

Thanks! I read through some more posts this morning and found some other women with the same problem I have. It is so frustrating and upsetting. Sex is not the center of my marriage or my life, but it was VERY enjoyable before and now it's just... a chore. DH does all in his power to make it enjoyable for me, but I get to the point where I just tell him to finish because it's obviously not going to happen. Bleh!

I've decided I officially HATE polycystic ovarian syndrome, and I'm not too thrilled with being a girl at the moment!
