I am out of pain meds?? HELP

Hi, all
Its me I am almost 3 weeks post-op and the pain is still there sometimes more then others and I am not sure what I should take. I have no prescrip pain meds anymore except ibuprofen. I was allergic to lortabs so they sent me home with more of a spine blocker type of medication called tramadol. for the most part it worked unless I only took 1 the bottle says no re-fill without doctor auth should I have my husband take it down and then they could fax the doc? I have read post about Advil?? I just want to feel a bit better I know some pain will be there but I feel like I can't do anything. I know it has only been just about 3 weeks but I thought I would feel a little better. I had to do a couple errands today and man I am paying for it now, it is because I was cut up the stomach?? It is Sat so the doctor is not in I don't know what to do any advise? Did Advil work for you? i tried aleve but it did nothing. I was just wondering if you gals had any advise for me Thanks bunches

blondraider,

I'm sorry that you're having a difficult recovery.
You should call your doctor and ask if he can give
you another script for pain medication.
Some narcotics can't be faxed over.
He may be able to call it in or you may have to pick it up.
No one here can really tell you what to take.
Even over the counter pain medications should
be recommended by your doctor after surgery.

Remember to

I hope you feel better soon!

Hi Blondraider!
It sounds like you had a lot more done than I did!!!! And you are doing too much, maybe.
I guess Mortrin or Advil will help until you can ask for something from the doctor to take the edge off. At this point he may say he is afraid to give you a Rx as he would be worried you are getting addicted.

Try and rest - don't strain to get up - let someone help -
if no one is there, take your time - use your arms and legs more.

You probably heard all that before!

Did you try a warm towel? Someone told me to be careful with too much heat (like a heating pad would produce too much heat for the incision??) , but a warmed up towel shouldn't get too hot, put it in the dryer a few minutes.

Good luck, best wishes and HUGS to you!
Carol

Blondraider,

Did you try using a heating pad...I know it was my best friend for a few weeks and seemed to be very soothing to me......try resting a little more also until you hear from the doctor...if pain is really that bad or uncomfortable you may want to get in with him asap or go to ER and get checked for possible infection....it probably is your body telling you that you are doing to much and you are still so early in recovery....I had a set back my 3rd week as I was feeling so good that I started to do too much the end of 2nd week and 3rd week found me paying for it...........I found that Motrin helped me....hope you get some relief soon...let us know

Hi blondraider -

I am sorry to hear that you are having a hard time. I can definitely tell when I overdo it. My incisions kill me. Luckily Lortab works for me. Hopefully you get some more meds from your doctor.

In the meantime, opposite of the other sisters, an ice packs really calms my pain when I have overdone it.

Take it easy - hope you feel better soon!

Hi Blondraider,

I am sorry to hear that you are out of your pain medications. You need to go ahead and call your doctors office and ask to speak to the on call doctor and see if he/she will write out a rx for your pain med that he could fax to your pharmacy or that he/she would let you pick up first thing Monday morning. When you do get this med ask your doctor if it's okay for you to alternate your rx pain med with either tylenol and or motrin. Until then, if you have any tylenol/motrin try alternating them. For example take tylenol now & then 3 hrs later take motrin, then 3 hrs later take tylenol again, only if you need it & see if maybe this works. That way you have your pain a little more under control, by at least taking the edge off of it. Hope you feel better soon. Let me know what your doc says.

You should call your doctor and let him or her know how much pain you are in. At three weeks post op you should be starting to feel better. Your doctor might want to see you to determine why you are still feeling so badly. I hope you feel better soon.

just to let you know at least in PA tramadol aka ultram can be called in by dr. or faxed. I have script for it with daypro for my arthritis. I was even allowed it pre op no daypro though so they subbed celebrex. Thankfully I can take whichever now. Best of luck to you and hope you feel better.
