estrogen and healing time

just read a quote from a gyno, that vagina's heal better and quicker on women whose bodies are "estrogenised"..........hmmm..... maybe we, who've had problems with healing, should've all had estrogen levels at optimum, before the "big chop"???? why are we not kept informed on all of these things before we make decisions that will effect the rest of our lives, and the lives of our families??? frustrated...........gee.

Gee -

I don't know but I plan on asking my Dr that tomorrow. I have been a very slow healer my Dr said becasue I had an infection at my cuff. It will be 3 months for me on Tuesday. I am seeing him for suspect granulation. I plan on asking him to check my hormone levels and to inquire about the estrogen cream everyone on here talks about to promote healing of the cuff.

I'll let you know what he says.....

estrogen and healing time

I have been on HRT since 4 days after my surgery. My cuff is not healing and have had silver nitrate treatment. The estrogen has not helped me heal any faster.

I don't know if my healing faster has anything to do with estrogen or not but my doctor put me on an estrogen patch right after surgery.

There's a difference in terms of effect on healing between systemic estrogen (patches and pills, etc) and vaginal estrogen products. While systemic estrogen helps a lot with menopausal symptoms like hot flashes, night sweats, mood swings, bone loss and more, it doesn't do a lot for the vagina because the vaginal walls are not all that well-supplied with blood vessels.

That's why there are special vaginal estrogen products (Vagifem, Premarin cream, Estrace cream, compounded vaginal estriol cream, etc). Those DO help with healing, and also help keep the vaginal walls moist and elastic longer-term, which can help your love life.

Even many women who are not permitted to use systemic HRT are allowed to use the vaginal estrogen products. My oncologist prescribes them for her patients all the time. This may be something to ask about if you've been having trouble with slow healing of the cuff.

Estrace cream contains bio-identical estradiol, just like the patches and Estrace pills. Vagifem is a tiny estradiol tablet that comes prepackaged in little applicators - really easy to use, I love it. Of course, the compounded vaginal estriol creams are bio-identical as well. Only the Premarin cream is not bio-identical, although it seems to be the most effective one of the bunch; so many women like to use it first for a short time, and then switch to one of the bio-identical options.
