what happens at the two week checkup

Hello Ladies,

My two week was last thursday, looked at my stitches, asked how I was feeling, asked about bowel , bladder functions. The worst part about the whole thing was that I had 45 min drive each way. DH did the driving.

I did get ok to drive but waited until monday to start that.

Not bad.

what happens at the two week checkup

I had a post op a week after surgery and we just talked and he asked how I was feeling and about pain and bleeding.

I had an "annual" this month- as I was due anyway.

what happens at the two week checkup

Thanks to all of you that reassured us about our 2 week check!! Nothing like hearing it from those who've experienced it!........recently had a woman asking about hyster - is facing one, another woman's husband(who knows my DH) asked if he could have his wife call me. I think there are more scared women out there than we know of!
Once again, Thank you all!

what happens at the two week checkup

Im glad to hear that mostly the incision just gets looked at and some questions asked. I can't imagine much more as my belly is still very tender. My incision is about an inch below the hair line but it hurts more across my belly near my belly button. I guess that must be because even tho theres a horizontal incision on top..., the doctor does a vertical cut once he gets in there a ways. I'm a little worried about the drive to the docs tomorrow since it's 40 minutes there and 40 minutes back and I'm planning on driving myself. Hope it doesn't totally wear me out.

what happens at the two week checkup

Cindamae41,

Please take it easy today. My drive to the two week check was tuff, and did wear me out because of the 45 minute there and back. Don't forget the waiting for the Doc. Something I wish i would have done was to wear my ice pack. That may help you in the long drive.

Have a great post op visit

what happens at the two week checkup

Thanks Kay...I leave in 15 minutes for my 2 week checkup. I wish I would have invested in that belly band but unfortunately I didn't. I was going to try and rest up all day in preparation for the drive to the doctors office but....have 2 17 year old boys at home that couldn't get their car started this morning so guess who had to drive them to school? lol oooooh....oh well..thanks for the advice and good wishes!

2 week checkup

Went for the two week checkup today. Doc looked at my incision and decided to see me again in 2 weeks instead of 4 because I still have swelling in one area. Guess that's not normal??? idk. In one small spot under a steri-strip there has been a very small amount of discharge so doc did a culture to see if any infection going on. If so...will be put on antibiotics. Guess everything else looked good. told me to keep using the breathing machine that the hospital gives you (spirometr???) as I had a problem with one lung. He just pushed on my belly gently and asked a few questions. Naturally, I had a bunch of questions for him that I wrote down but left on the kitchen table so of course I couldn't remember any of them! I asked if it was ok to keep taking miralax and he advised me to stick to the recommendation on the bottle which says dont take more than 7 days in a row. He said to give it a couple weeks and if i have problems to start it up again. As far as Darvacet for pain.., he decided to give me another prescription while I continue to try and wean off them. that pretty much covers it. hope this gives the other ladies out there an idea of what to expect! Oh..I asked if i could remove the steri-strips and he said I could.

what happens at the two week checkup

Well Had my 2 week yesterday. I was ready for the exterior exam in stirrups. After telling me of how good the exterior was looking, he said 'I'll be putting in the speculum - I almost yelled "You're kidding, right?" - Dr said 'no, it'll be alright'. I waited for the pain, but there was NONE!! "He even did an internal vag exam (since I had repair with mesh) and there was no pain! I used to have VERY painful exams, so this was absolutely AWESOME!

Please don't get worried, those who are having a hyster. Having an internal exam may have not been typical for folks since I had numerous other repairs done. Even so - there was no pain! I was so excited I forgot to ask when I could drive again! Right now my tush is too painful to sit long, so I'm not in a rush - I'll stay near my ice packs and a place I can lay on my side.

Have a good day ladies!
