Need Some Help(Regarding Doctor)(children mentioned)

I went in today for my 5 week post op appointment and I was told that the doctor no longer sees patients if they have kids with them. They said that the policy wasn't new and that the nurse wasn't enforcing the policy. She got fired. I have been seeing this doctor for two years and this has never been a problem. I have always had my daughter with me and the doctor never said anything. My husband doesn't get off work until after the office is closed and there isn't anyone else to watch her, everyone in my family works lol. So I wasn't seen today. I just had a major surgery and haven't had my internal exam yet. The only thing I can think to do is see if I can find another doctor.

Oh my Gosh,

I don't even know what to say. This is horrible, I would say you need to call the doctor who did the surgery and ask for a referral and tell him why. Is this policy posted in the office? You need to tell his staff that he needs to call you.

There is a sign in the office saying that they prefer kids not being at the office visits but this has never been an issue. I have seen lots of kids in the office. I even asked when I made my first appointment over the phone if bringing my daughter with me would be a problem and the nurse said that it wasn't. I will call him and see what he says and see if he can give me a referral. This is so messed up!

That is so crazy! They did not call you and tell you that they were going to be enforcing that policy? I would be on the phone letting them know that your post op check is included in the price that your ins. has paid them for your surgery. I am kind of at a loss, as I have never heard of someone not being seen if they have their child with them. I could understand maybe if it was Planned Parenthood, but a regular office.
Hope they give you a refferal, or maybe you could reschedule during DH lunch hour? Or if they won't see you w/ your child then that Dr. better have his butt in there after hours so your DH can watch DD.

Best Wishes and a BIG
I know for me I would be down there strangling someone, and blaming it on having no ovaries

That is a shame that they are now wishing to enforce a policy that has not been for so long. Do you think that there are any childcare centers nearby that do hourly care? Maybe since your doctor does not allow kids, they should offer a list of childcare providers...I think that would be fair...

Best wishes to you.

Agree about the unreasonableness!

But also, please try not worry too much about not having seen someone yet. I was 7 weeks post-op before I had an appointment, adn it wasn't a problem.

Hope you get an apology!

Oh you are much more tolerant than me. I would not have left his office until he came out himself and refused to see me. The fact that you were there and probably still in pain for your post op visit and then decides not to see you. I would have had a fit. I would have told him that he was paid to do the surgery and he owes you the follow up. Im sure your daughter was with you for your pre op and he didnt have a problem. But then again I might have been so mad and hurt after trusting him to do the surgery and then be treated like that, I might have asked them to hand over my file right there and then!! Also if this was just starting to be enforced they certainly could have done your post op but told you for future appointments. I say NO CLASS, and I would be steamin!!!!!!!!!

how horrible. I would prefer to my appoinments without kids too, but that's not always possible. I would report him to your insurance provider. There are times when they can stick up for you with unfair practices ( I just don't know the extent of what those times might entail).

do you have a friend who can babysit for you? a neighbor? i dont think the no children rule is unreasonable but they should have at least sent letters or something out letting all their patients know that the rule was now in effect. turning people away seems silly. maybe when they make reminder calls, they should include that they are enforcing that rule. sorry that happened to you

Ummm....did it take them two years to fire a nurse who wasn't enforcing this? Something doesn't sound right...

I would try to contact your doctor directly - but if he gets a message that you want a referral, hopefully he will call to ask why.

HUGS and I hope this gets straightened out.

Buy them this sign to hang in the office (I have seen this in stores): "Children left unattended will be fed espresso and given a puppy."
