Nausea, nausea, nausea...pre-surgery

Hi everyone!!

I'm having a TAH next week. I have a fibroid the size of a "baseball" in the wall of my cervix. It has been pushing my other organs all over the place and I'm so uncomfortable daily.

For the past months, I have been so nauseous, as well as in pain. I have a great doctor for my surgery and I told her at my appointment about the nausea and asked her if that was a common symptom that she hears from women. She said it wasn't a prevalent symptom. I talked to the nurse who will be at my surgery and she just had a TAH as well. She said her nausea was daily and it was awful too.

This is what I have been doing for the nausea. My family and I have found that "ginger root capsules" work very well. We heard from a pharmacist once that ginger helps immensely with nausea. We travel a lot so we take ginger when we fly or go on boats. The ginger is great because there are no side effects to it because it isn't a medicine like dramamine. My husband suggested I take the ginger for my fibroid nausea as well and that maybe it would help. And yes....it does....thank goodness! We buy "ginger capsules" in the vitamin section of any pharmacy. They work great!

I'm curious to hear about other women........do many of you have nausea?

Have a sunny day!

Nausea, nausea, nausea...pre-surgery

I never had nausea pre-op -- just a feeling of bloating due to my enlarged uterus.

For me, the old standby remedies like tea and soda crackers seemed to help when I did feel sick, though. Small meals, nothing too fatty or spicy... that sort of thing. I do get motion sick, but for some reason motion sickness meds (like dramamine) don't do anything for me if I'm *already* sick -- they only help prevent me from getting sick.

Hi Irish Bridie,

Yes I had the constant nausea including the vomiting too and I had no fibroids at all. The doctor actually had me using two different anti nausea meds stemitil and maxalon. One was to be used if I felt sick before I started eating the other if it happened during of after. I tended to live on dry jatz most days as I coudl just nibble on them.

Hope you feel better soon.........Karen

Bridie,
I love ginger for nausea. I do remember on my pre-op sheet however, that they suggested no ginger for 36 hourse before surgery. I have NO idea why.

My biggest fibroid was in my cervix too, I guess that is kind of uncommon. I didn't have nausea until after my surgery.

Good luck to you as you prepare for your big day!
