Brain is not working right

I am three weeks post op tomorrow and I am really getting worried about my thinking and reasoning abilities. It is like I am on meds or something and I haven't even taken an aspirin since about day 4. I can't remember how to do the simplest things like download and email pictures from my digital camera which I have owned for over a year. I've sent 100's of pictures in the past and I could not do it today. I also ruined my supper. I cooked a nice supper for the first time since the surgery. I baked a Mash's ham and made scalloped pototoes to go with it. I burned the ham and had to trim off the burned part and the potatoes overflowed and made a super mess of the microwave. I've been cooking for 45 years and I've never had a double fiasco like I did today. It is taking me about 9 minutes to solve a sudoku when I usually do it in about 5 minutes or less. I know this sounds like I am whining but I am very scared that something is wrong with my head. My spelling is awful in emails and spell check will not even catch my errors because I am putting in the wrong word but spelling it correctly. This is not a joke post even though I admit it sounds like I am making this stuff up. What is wrong with my mind?

Brain is not working right

It is likeliy just your hormones and effects from the surgery. Sometimes the anesthesia does weird things to you. just make sure you're getting plenty of rest. Even if you kept your ovaries, the hormone swings are really serious. Give it more time and if you're not better discuss with your doc at your post op appt. Hang in there and just try not to do much that requires much thinking!!!

What you are experiencing is normal after a hysterectomy. I don't know if you had your ovaries removed also, but even if you didn't, ovaries often don't produce the normal amount of hormones for a few months after surgery. So the lack of estrogen can create mental confusion. It's frustrating and scary but temporary.

Thanks ladies.
I have already gone through menopause so I did not expect to see these effects after surgery. I am 61 and I figured that the ovaries weren't doing anything any more. I sure hope this improves because it is scaring the heck out of me. I was ditzy enough before all of this started.

even though you had gone through menopause, your ovaries were still providing you with some hormones. your body is probably adjusting to them being removed. if you continue to not feel well, definitely let your dr know. i hope you feel better soon.

Brain is not working right

Is anyone else a complete emotional wreck? I can't stand the way I feel! I'm usually the calm rational one with an overflowing resource of patience. I can't think rationally and cry for nothing. Not just getting teary, either. I mean full-blown boo-hooing. I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks my brain is not functioning. I talked to my Mom today (who had her hysterectomy in her 40's) and she said this is totally normal. Even though I kept my ovaries. What gives? Any idea when I'll be back to me?

It sure is reassuring to hear others are going thru with the mental thing... I too have gone thru menopause, but after I had my D& C last month, I told the doc about it ... thought it was effects from anethesia.... he seemed to think that was not the problem, but no explanation.... Now I am doing it again.... I am sure the anesthetic affects some of us more than others...

Kay, I would bet this is related to hormones, even though you've been through menopause. I'd say give your doc a call and discuss it with him/her just for some piece of mind. Keep us posted.

Brain is not working right

I know exactly how you all feel, I cannot concentrate like I used to....
I forget things, for example....My friend stopped by yesterday and said she was going to town..I asked her to pick me up a coffee at ???????
I went blank and could not remember "Starbucks" of all things.....Could not thinK.....she filled in the blank....

I try to read, but cannot last for long--only short articles---

I am not on HRT but if this keeps up, i think I will see about it!!!!

Brain is not working right

First thank you for this concern, because I feel like i have the attention of a fly. I get started then stop, then go upstairs for something only to get upstairs and not know what I am looking for.

I also have times were I am not sad but just blagh. I have my ovaries, but I think they are still messed up from surgery. But I did go through a PMS food phase where I was eating like crazy late last week , any I could get my hands on.

Could it be that I am just at point where I "feel" like I should be doing more but "know" that I need to spend more time healing. This healing is hard work. My family has been great but the people in the real world just don't get it.

Thanks for listening (reading) everyone ,you ladies are great.
