The Ultimate High

Tomorrow is my 67th birthday and I leave for Peru. Won't see a bed until Friday night at Lake Titicaca, elev. 12,500 ft. I think I qualify as the oldest member of this group, and probably the one with the fastest recovery, thanks to my minimally invasive surgery. But then I've always tended to be 3 sigma on the normal curve. Once when I was having lunch with a longtime friend, I said something about marching to the beat of a different drummer. He looked at me and said "I can't see you marching to the beat of any drummer." That's me, the non-conforming nonconformist.

Since I've already been through menopause, hormones weren't an issue. And since my job is only part time with totally flexible hours and days, I started back to work 9 days after surgery. It was about 3 weeks before I was back to my full regular schedule including workouts at the gym and trips to see my 88-year-old aunt 80 miles away. Normally I work about 2-4 hours a day, 4-5 days a week. I refer to it as my day program since it gives me a reason to get out of bed and get dressed. I don't have to use an alarm clock, since I don't have to be at work by a certain time. Sometimes it's before 10, sometime not.

I wish you all good luck and continued recovery. I expect there will be many posts to catch up on when i get back at the end of the month. It's a red-eye flight leaving Lima at midnight and arriving at LAX at 7:30 am. I expect it will be 10 or 11 before I get through customs and get a SuperShuttle ride. But living a couple miles from the airport has its advantages.

We'll see if Romeo gives me the cold shoulder when I get back. He should be happy that I'm having a pet sitter come 2 times a day to give him his meds instead of boarding him with the vet and having a pet sitter come once a day to feed the other cats. Romeo has severe inflammatory bowel disease and requires prednisone twice a day, as well as Leukeran twice a week. Leukeran is a chemo drug used for lymphoma, which IBD frequently progresses into. You have to use a latex glove to handle it. I had another Snowshoe Siamese, Baby, about 7 years ago, who developed lymphoma and I had to have her put down when she got down to only 4 pounds. That's when I met Romeo, an older cat who had been brought in by animal control with an abcess on his chin and had been at the vet's for 2 weeks with no inquiries regarding him. Since he looked exactly like Baby and was very mellow, I knew he would fit in with my older cat, Gretchen, who had renal failure. As it turned out her kidney's shut down the following week and I had to have her put down. But when I went by the Humane Society store before going to a movie to take my mind off of losing 2 cats within a week, I met April, a chocolate point lynxpoint Siamese, who looked very like Gretchen, but with long hair. I thought about it overnight and brought her home the next day. Romeo is a total lovebug. And now that Sinbad, has passed on, April is blossoming, since Sinbad is no longer around to bully her. But she has always been very shy.

good going sistas! glad to hear most of us are back "to normal"
Have a great time on our trip fia

I wish I could say happy to be back to some normality
The abscess I had has now gone away, but my Doc says that infection prolly put me back more than 2 weeks of healing. So I am glad that my new job will be able to compensate for my setback. I think the odd thing that sticks out to me, is that I did not work before surg. *within our group* I am so scared to go to even orientation. which will last more than a week. But this is how i had designed my surgery....... after holidays but b4 vacation in May.

I still have a lot of lower abs discomfort, in one way or another. So, I am so pleased that I won't actually hafta lift pts @ work for a couple of weeks. I just know............ I would burn out so fast or set back even more my recovery.
Going to the doc tomorrow, to get my release for work lol............ gotta have sneaky physical on Tuesday by the hosp. I am gonna work for
So, my actual work week will be the 14th, plenty time!
I am just so happy that it is a rehab hosp. where most ppl get better and leave, not stay and die from old age, or whatever ails them.
Oh yeah, I don't want that doc near my woman parts for the physical, I don't think any person should b playing around there for awhile!!! Cept when I have that external object for satisfaction

Hope ya'll had a great St. Patty's day, we had leftover corned beef and hash

Six Week Check Up

I had my six week check up yesterday. The doctor did a quick internal check just like he had done on my first and third week check up. At my third week check up, he put me on a two week vaginal insertion cream, not fun! Yesterday, he put me on two oral antibiotics and told me to come back in another two weeks. He would not clear me to go back to work. Considering how I can't stand or walk around for more than ten minutes at a time without feeling dizzy, I guess this is a good thing. I am just worried about being out for so long. I am a second year teacher at an alternative school. My students are all at risk, and the longer I am away, the more ground some of them will loose. Also, being second year means that my employers may decide not to renew my contract for next year. I know that I shouldn't focus on anything but getting better right now, but I am supporting my family of six. My husband has been unemployed for the majority of the past two years. We live 1,500 miles away from our friends and family. We moved right after I graduated from college in order for me to accept my teaching position. I feel very blessed that I was able to find a teaching position, but I have felt very alone during my recovery. Finding this website has been a real comfort. I read the posts a couple of times each day. I don't post very often, but the couple of times I have, I have always received replies back. I told my doctor's nurse all about the website yesterday at my check up. She wrote the name of it down so that she could tell other patients.

Thank you for being my support and companionship during my recovery. I am so happy that so many of you are back to work and life as it was pre-surgery. I know that my return is just around the corner as well.

Your HysterSister,
Rebecca~

Morning all... I think ive finally turned a corner! We will see tonight after a full day, but yesterday i worked for 5 hours, came home and did take a nap, but then went out with friends for dinner. I had a lemon drop martini, a few glasses of wine, it felt great! We came home early, but i felt good and didnt need even tylenol to go to bed. This morning I have walked a mile and 1/2, cleaned up the backyard of all the "doggie do" .. threw then tennis ball endlessly for Logan, and I still feel good! Last week just being outside wore me out. I wanted to get out today because we are suppose to get 4-6 inches of snow tonight and tomorrow... its been a long long winter here!

Rebecca... Im sorry you are still having some problems, and sorry to your husband has had troubled finding a job. Its a tough time to be recovering along with all of that over your head. Im glad you found this website too, I tell everyone i know about it! lol

So my husband has offered ...one last time as he put it... to get groceries.... Id better make a list!

Have a great day all.

Well girls, today was the day. Our first attempt at SEX! LOL

We took it really slow (with me in control) and it went well! Of course we were extra careful, but there wasn't any blood or pain. *whew!*

It's going to be awhile before we can "let loose" but that's perfectly fine with me.

Hi Ladies,

After posting here and talking to a family member I decided to call my primary care Dr. since she sent me to the specialist. I told her about my pains and concerns and about my entire 6wk. ordeal. I told her that my surgeon dismissed my pains as just regular healing pains. She did not understand how he could say I was healing fine if he did not check to see. I also told her what he told me about my short term disability.

I went to see her at 2:15 yesterday. She did everything that was not done on Tuesday. I gave a urine sample, blood was drawn and she did a pelvic exam and that really hurt. She then told me to get dressed while she went to call my surgeon. She came back 15-20 min. later and asked me if I had been bleeding because there was blood in my urine. I have not seen blood since my 3rd. week home. She said that the area where my stiches are is very swollen which could be what is causing my pain in the vaginal area. It is so swollen that it is causing me to feel like something is stuck in my vagina and about to drop out. I was given a shot for pain and sent home to rest and go to the ER if the pains returned within the hour . The pain did not return in an hour but it did start to come back around 8:00 but I headed it off by taking two pain pills.

I am happy that my complaints about my pains are being taken seriously however, I am really scared. My primary said that she would call me today with my results and if nothing came back wrong she was going to have me go directly to the ER at Medical City here in Dallas. I kept my ovaries although my left ovary had a cyst on it that had ruptured prior to surgery. I am afraid that either there is something wrong with the ovary or the vaginal cuff. I do not want to go through anymore surgery!! I hope my surgeon is not upset with me.

Today the pain when I urinate is very much present as is the pain from my right side and my vaginal area. I have decided to wait patiently to see what the test results show rather than going to the ER.

There is a bright spot for me today my oldest son is home this week for Spring Break and today is his 19th birthday. He attends college in Houston and decided to come home for his break rather than go to Padre Island so I will take a couple of pain pills every 4 hrs. today so that I can at least celebrate with him. He really loves me to pick a sick mother over girls in bikini's (smile ). We are going to do a late lunch just in case I am told that I have to go back to the castle.

Thanks for all of the nice replies and most of all the prayers that have been sent my way. I am praying that all will be well and more surgery will not be required. I will post again later after my doctor calls.

Just back from my first post-surgery appointment at 6 weeks. I was a bit concerned since I have been bleeding since the surgery. Seems I have a spot on the vaginal cuff that is not healing. My Dr. put Silver Nitrate on to freeze the open spot that is bleeding and said to come back in two weeks. She said I was to continue with all the post-op limitations including NO SEX!!!! Will this ever end???????

Just needed to vent. Thanks for listening.
