Hi

I had my SH on January 14 and last night me and DH had relations for the first time since the surgery. It was wonderful...no bleeding no pain nothing. It was wonderful. I just had to say...Denise.

Hello frazzle,

I am not on HRT, and in fact, am going to try and wing it for as long as I can without them. I have only had two minor hot flashes and two minor night sweats. The only thing that I am starting to feel are sore muscles and joint pains. I have plenty of sexual desire though.

I am going to say this and it's meant to give hope, not belittle or take away from someone who truely suffers from a hormone imbalance. I have had a lifelong problem with depression (part hormonal, part life circumstance, off meds for about seven years now) and have learned that a lot of sex takes place in the mind (at least for me). Depression can wreak havoc on a persons sexual life and I had to learn to be sexual at times. I hope this is making sense because I just want ladies who are stuggling with something like this to know that they can learn to enjoy sex and not suffer because of the whims of their hormones or lack thereof. It's not all in your head, but sometimes it can be a mental attitude. Make sense, I hope so.

Here is to a good sex life,

Bitterpill - you and I have a lot in common. I,too, have battled with depression many years due to imbalances and "life". I am still on meds, which are working very well. I am also doing well on my HRT, Estratest, so far and don't want to rock the boat. I totally agree with you about sex mostly being in the mind!! Your comments make total sense to me. Thanks for the encouragement

It is wonderful to hear you are doing so well, I agree, no rocking the boat.
The farther I get from my surgery, I do feel rather menopausal, but nothing like some are suffering. I think, I am not sure, but HRT is not something I can take because of the uterine cancer and the risk of breast cancer. Antidepressants were a God-send, but I am doing alright without them at this time in my life.

I am so glad you understood what I was talking about and found encouragement!

It is so relieving to hear about the good experiences. I'm so terrified! I'm not even 2 weeks post-op yet, but because of a post-op infection of the vaginal cuff, I'm having to use vaginal antibiotics. (The doctor is afraid the infection could spread to the anterior reconstruction mesh.) Just using the applicator is awful, it keeps getting hung up on stitches and everything is so painful.
Like I said, it has not been quite 2 weeks and Hubby has chopped an entire tree into firewood. I don't know what he will do for the next month, we are out of trees!

I had major rectocele too...what is the mesh for?
I too had those stitches and pain and discomfort--much more than I ever anticipated, even vaginal "reconstruction"...but, I'm now 8 weeks out (almost) and I do think I have turned a corner...it just takes time, I guess...and patience, lots of patience.

How many of you with wonderful sex after the surgery had TVH with extensive repairs? I hope that someone who has that procedure and repairs will chime in and tell me how it is.

I am ready---- well, I mean I am interested and it is only 4 weeks today. I still have a way to go before I go to the doctor's on the 20th.

Positive return to intimacy

Hi fellow princesses, I've had heated thoughts at two weeks post op. I can't wait to get the "ok" for relations with my sweetheart. This little bump in the road is frustrating. We were active before the "bump" and I can't wait for it to be over. He has been very supportive through all this. I know to take it easy the first time and we will. I'm just gald to hear postive thoughts and expierences after six weeks. Thank you.

Mollief,
I have the mesh from the rectocele repair too. My surgeon said the mesh goes between the rectum and the vaginal canal to "Velcro them together", his words exactly. Apparently, it adds a measure of support to both and helps everything stay up. Before the surgery he had said he might use mesh on my bladder, but wouldn't know until he got in there. Afterwards, he said the bladder was fine after he got my uterus off of it, but the rectocele was way worse than he expected so that is where the mesh went. The surgery was supposed to take an hour, plus an extra half hour if he needed to work on my bladder. It ended up taking nearly 2 hours because of all the rectocele work!

I've read that a rectocele is a hernia of the rectum protruding through the vaginal wall so it seems like the mesh would also put a strong barrier between the two to keep it from happening again.

I didn't understand the implications of rectocele with regard to the vaginal wall and sex after surgery...my dh and I have yet to have a successful try at intimacy because of vaginal pain...also things are much tighter than prior to surgery...too much information, maybe...but the whole reconstruction thing has a lot of implications that I just didn't understand before surgery...I'm ready to give up--it's like my most intimate parts aren't mine anymore...
