Vaginal itching 2 days after LAVH

OK this is a little embarrassing, but I need to know why I am itching. I had my surgery on the 1st and started itching 2 days after the surgery. I haven't a clue as to why this is happening to me. This itching is so intense that I can't stand it!

I called my gyn's office this morning and told them the problem . They said they will call me back and now here it is almost 7PM and no call back.

I had also asked what I can take that is non-habit forming to soften my stools. I don't know how NOT to strain when I have a BM. It seems like I am straining too much because each time I have a BM I also have a spot or two of pink blood on my pantyliner.

Hope someone can help

I also have had itching after my LAVH. For stools, I used Colace. I then developed diarrhea and stopped the Colace thinking it was the reason but 2 wks postop still dealing with this.

Thank you so much for replying! I thought I was the only one with this crazy itching. I just don't understand it.

My husband picked up Colace for me today (a friend told me to use Colace). So I thought I would ask, in case someone used something else.

Do you think the LAVH may have caused the diarrhea? I've had a problem with diarrhea for years. Hopefully the LAVH won't make it worse.

I had an episiotomy (sp) so the itching was horrible. I asked about using a water bottle to pour warm water on that area and it really helped. I put a small hole in the lid of the bottle to aim the water in the area that was bothering me the most. Also the Charmin wipes soothed after using the bathroom. Colace was the best for me but I also added daily meal of raisin bran to help with fiber. Good Luck.

Another possibility is that between the bowel prep, the medicated douche that's used during vaginal hysts and the antibiotics we're sometimes given, post op diarrhea and yeast infections are VERY common because the helpful bacteria in the vagina that aid in digestion and water absorption and keep the yeasts in check get wiped out.

When I've had them, my DR prescribed Diflucan (an oral tablet) since of course we're not to put anything into the vagina for about six weeks after surgery. She's also told me to eat plain yogurt and/or take a probiotic daily. When I do that, no yeast infections!

I would keep after your DR's office and make sure you get an answer.

As for stool softeners, Colace or anything containing that same ingredient (docusate sodium) is fine by most DRs; the ones with laxatives added (including senna) are not.

I hope this helps.

My doc prescribed ducolax and milk of magnesia in the hosp. After severe diarrhea, he stopped.. I started taking over the counter Phillips stool softener in gel caps (Walgreens) and it has worked great for me.. Take it at night with lots of water and usually in the morning I go with no straining.. I did notice if you get diarrhea and you are pushing to expel the water, that was when I had the bleeding... although my surgery was not vaginal but abdominal. Hope this helps
