Vaginal Stenosis

I was told I have Vaginal Stenosis (I guess it can happen after a VH) ...and that I should use a vaginal dilator.. At the time I had no idea what that was .. And now after doing some research I am skeptical. Does this actually work or at best help???

In a few weeks the obgyn is going to give the vaginal scar a needle to “kill the nerve endings”… has anyone else had this done before?? Oh I am nervous about that one!

The Ob told me to you Astroglide instead of KY, as the KY does not seem to help.. She said Astroglide works better and last longer which is good for Vaginal Stenosis. . . Has anyone tried that?? OR are there any other jellies or creams that you found to work better???

Sorry for the questions, I am just a nervous wreck these days!

Vaginal Stenosis

(((Yankeesfan))) you certainly have a lot to deal with. There have been some other ladies around the site that have had to use vaginal dilators for the same problem, hopefully some will pop in with their experience. The astroglide is good, and there are other products such as Silk and the Intimate Moisture product from the hystersisters store, hopefully you will find one that works best for you. Keep us posted on how things go for you.
Best wishes and lots of 's,

Vaginal Stenosis

I have a dumb question - what is this and how do you know you have it?

Vaginal Stenosis

Definition: A narrowing of the vagina, often with accompanying tissue changes such as dryness, loss of elasticity and resilience, and scar tissue. Stenosis can be a side effect of radiation therapy or surgery. Followup use of dilators and/or sexual intercourse, and sometimes estrogen cream is vital to prevent stenosis.

Thanks .. I have not heard of this before so I was sort of shocked when she said this is what I had. I guess I thought I went over everything prior to the surgery so when she said I had this I was sort up bothered that no one told me that this was a possibility.. although I would have gone through with the surgery anyway.. I atleast would have went to the obgyn much sooner than waiting 8 months...
All I know is that trying to have intercourse is very painful.. I almost feel bruised.. even with lubrication. SO my next thing is to find other lubrications that work better for my body... KY is not working so well. I will buy the Astroglide and if that does not help then I will try others until I find the right one I guess....

Vaginal Stenosis

Do give Astroglide a try. It is thick or more slicker than KY. We used it just the other day for our first time. Things were slippery, for sure.

Good luck!

Do a search for "dilators" here on the site. You'll find there have been quite a few discussions on this subject. You're not alone, but I know women who have taken the time and have overcome this problem. With time you can restretch those tissues. I think it's real important not to let it go though, be persistent.

I'm sorry you're having to deal with this. I hope you can find some threads that will give you some added info. I second the vote on the Astroglide. If you put some lubricants on your finger and then rub your fingers together you can feel that they are sticky. You want it to be slick. That's a good way to test them. The Very Intimate Moisture product here on the site is also a good one. Keep us posted on your progress.
