How much chemo is enough?

I am diagnosed with endometrial cancer, stage 3, grade 2, my file went to a "tumor review board" and they suggest 6 chemo treatments, after treatments a ct scan and possibly radiation, they told me that 4 chemo treatments wouldn't be enough, all this is done for "insurance that it doesn't spread", this sounds like a lot of insurance to me. Do I need a 2nd. opinion?

How much chemo is enough?

Hi Sharon,
I am sorry you are having to deal with this. I think in every situation of this importance it is best to get a second opinion. In my case, different than yours, they recommended 6 chemo treatments but it took such a toll on me that I could only make it through 4. I completed 26 radiation treatments and for me the doctors thought that the radiation was more important. Best of luck to you and I'll keep you in my thoughts. Take care. Tamara

How much chemo is enough?

If it was me, I would rather have more than less. After three chemos I am in remission but I am still going to continue on with the remaining three, just for 'insurance' There possibly could be some small little devil someplace that is not showing up on a scan and the remaining three treatments will knock that little bugger out. I tolerate the chemo well, so it is not too much of an inconvenience for me to have the remaining three.

Getting a second opinion is a good idea, but be prepared for a lot of differences in opinion. There are some here that have gotten not only second but third opinions and each one has been different. In the long run it will be your decision.

How much chemo is enough?

Sharon Hi I'm like stergi and could only recieve 4 but would have continued except for the nuerapathy(sp?), otherwise i handled the chemo very well, insurance is a good thing, and the radiation was absolute 8 weeks after recovery. No doubt about it in fact, I had it first. Both were quite doable. Hugs to you as you make your decision, mine was pretty much decided for me.
