Hospital bill - Oh my!!

Just got the bill from my surgery on Jan 14. Holy *&^%! Just over $31,000! That includes my two night stay, the surgery and anesthesiology, but doesn't include all the pre-op appointments, ultrasounds, etc. Man, I just can't believe how expensive this was! I thank God for double insurance coverage because my out of pocket is going to be less than $500.

wow! I'm also from Seattle. I'm guessing my bill will be similar then. I also have really good insurance, so hopefully I'll have very little out of pocket. That is amazing how much this sort of thing will cost.

I wonder if there is a difference in cost between vaginal or abdominal?

Thank goodness for insurance!!!!

Lorainne, did you have your surgery in Seattle, or in a suburb? The hospital I was at was on the East side of Seattle... I know we can't say hospital names though.

Hi Loves to run,

I had my surgery in a burb just south of Seattle, very close to where I live in Des Moines. Great experience there at that hospital!

Yikes!!!! That was more than my TAH, with 3 days in the hospital. The total of mine was $28,000. I have awesome insurance through my husband's union, and only had to pay for the phone and tv.

Hope your recovery is going ok!

I'm amazed at how soon some of your hospitals send out the bills. I had mine 3 months ago and still have not received a bill from the hospital. Maybe they forgot??? I don't think it's a case of me not owing anything because I still would have gotten a statement from my insurance company saying that they paid, but that has not come either. I received statements regarding the pathologist and anesthesiologist even though I owed nothing. Wouldn't you know the bill that is probably the largest and causes me to worry the most is the one I still haven't received.

Hospital bill - Oh my!!

As I am in Canada - my only charge was for my phone - $9.00 - everything else for my 3 day stay, including my prescriptions all covered. If I would have had to pay for it I never would have been able to have it - that must be a terrible situation for some women to be in if they do not have insurance. I hope it doesn't happen too often.

Mine was $26,000 for the hospital bill.

I am a school teacher and have a pretty good insurance plan. My total out of pocket expense has been $100.

I hate paying insurance premiums every month but this has been worth it.
