Hospital bill - Oh my!!

Ouch! I have gotten my bill for my 2 day hospital stay and it was around $9,000. I haven't heard how much my Dr.'s bill will be. I am with you all though thank God for insurance!

Hospital bill - Oh my!!

I believe I have all my bills now... total of almost $36,000 for 2 nights stay at the castle, TVH, urethral sling, surgeon, anesthesia and pathologist. My out of pocket is $600, which doesn't include the MD visits prior and after. My DH is a teacher, and we make it on his income (this is his 2nd year teaching, if that tells you anything). Thankfully our hospital will do payment plans interest free... it will be paid off in 20 easy monthly installments !

Yes - its unbelievable isn't it?

My hospital bill came in at 16K and my out of pocket was 890, but I did pay 90.00 on the day of because if I did I saved 10.00!

I checked my insurance company's website and over 22K has hit, I am not sure if I will have more out of pocket or not.

My endo abalation and D&C and hysterscopy in October was about 375 out of pocket. Can I get a refund on that?

Thank goodness for insurance.

Sisters that do not have sure to ask for the reduced cash amount. This is the amount with the amount they would have "written off" subtracted. For example if the charge was 1000.00 and the insurance company usually reimburses them 800.00 and charges a 50.00 co-pay, they "writeoff" 150.00, so the "cash" price should be 850.00.

Wow, I am surprised at how much some of your surgeries cost. I had a TAH on 12/4 and just got all my bills. Total amount billed was just under $15,000 (doctor, hospital, pathology and anestheisology). My out of pocket for the surgery was $1,411..

I hear you there! I think I paid about $1300 for that in May. Of course, I was just happy not to have pay the $45,000 they billed. So far, the hysterectomy has cost only about half of that. When I told my mom 4 months after my ablation that it looked like I would have to have a hysterectomy, she told me I should have asked for a money back guarantee.

My bill was $13,749 for a TAH and 53 hours in the hospital, including the time for the operation. And I went home a day early!

I think the varied costs are due to the procedures. All are different, and time of stay at castles are varied, also. Also, some surgeries are more complicated than others. A Lap or vaginal is not as costly as an abdominal total hyst. with ovaries, tubes removed.
Just depends on the extensivity of the operation.

Me, I would have sold my soul just about to be free of the pain !!!!!
It was well worth it...........
