Coinsurance

If it says coinsurance than that is what I think it would mean.

The hospital should have some sort of advocate or rep in billing who can help you maximize coverage.

I know that for awhile after my divorce my son had insurance from both of us....I used mine as primary as it had better coverage and then Dad's picked up what was left....sometimes even the co-pay....

It never hurts to ask. You are paying for the coverage even if your employer covers the monthly fee the insurance company has been receiving financial compensation.

Nancy,
Your husband's insurance should pick up the remaining cost. If it does not I would contact someone and ask why.
Good luck!

I received the statement from the hospital, $25,000. The surgeon charged $4,000. I found out the anesthesiologist is not a participating provider so I am not sure how that will work yet. My insurance only covers contracted providers, which doesn't make sense because they just give you one when you get to the hospital. My deductible is $500, after that is met, everything is covered. I will be fighting for the anesthesia.

Over 40 thousand for mine... 4 doctors - 6 surgeries (LAVH, rectocele, anterior and posterior repair and TVT) I didn't need the cystocele because removing the uterus removed the issue.

And the bills keep coming in - Thank goodness I preauthorized everything - out of pocket less than 500.

SJMB:
Check with your insurance,,, I addressed this issue before... Some ins. have what they call WRAP around policy... to cover people that are in-network with Dr. & Hosp. but not anest. WRAP stands for something, but I can't tell you what at this time... Stay proactive ladies... just cause they say we owe it does not necessarily mean it is true... I have had more than one bill taken care of when I push the issue.... Good luck

I had to fight an insurance bill of $1,300 when I had my lumectomy. My doctor/surgeon had another doctor assisting him in the operating room. He didn't take my insurance & didn't know until I got a bill in the mail from the hospital!!!!!! It took a year of fighting but it was resolved in my favor! The first time that I called the insurance company, they actually had the nerve to ask if I questioned each person that was in the operating room if they took my insurance or not! Just when you think you've seen it all.

Wow! Unbelievable what some of the bills are. My TAH/BSO bills are starting to arrive and I'm looking at almost $40,000. My out of pocket maximum is $3500. Still figuring out how I'm going to do that, but grateful I don't have to pay more!

I set up a payment plan with the DR, Hospital, and Anesthesiologist. I will be paying for a while, but I will not be strapped because of it.

In insurance co-insurance is the portion that you are responsible for.
