Puss Pockets 2 weeks post op

This is my first post here so be patient with me.

I had a TVH on Monday, Jan 21st. Also, had a bladder sling and Anterior/Posterior repair. Things went pretty good, came home from the castle the next day. On Friday, the cath came out. Saturday felt horrible with back pain and symptoms that made me think I had a UTI. Suffered through till Monday, called the dr, and the nurse called in Macrobid. After a couple of days started to feel much better.

On Thursday I woke up feeling wonderful and that continuted until Saturday. I finished the Macrobid on Sunday and woke up Monday with a weird feeling in my stomach and just feeling bad in general.

At this point I'm 2 weeks post op and my stomach feels hollow, which is a new feeling. As the day progressed I felt worse and worse until by 2pm I was in bed where I stayed until about 8pm when my mother came over to check on me. I couldn't lie flat or stand straight and my stomach was sore to the touch. I also had a temp of 101.5.

She took me to the ER and I was admitted with a white blood count of 22, 000 (I guess it's supposed to be between 4500 and 10,000) and two pockets of infection in the pelvic area.

Stayed at the castle for 3 nights on 2 antibitoics and was released on Thursday with a WBC of 7,500 and RX for the same antibiotics by mouth. Dr says that I may still need surgery unless repeated CT's and ultrasounds show the puss pockets completely clear. I go Tuesday for my next ultrasound.

Has anyone else had this experience? Did the antibiotics take care of the problem or did you need to have drains? Does anyone know what causes these puss pockets? I have taken care of myself exactly as I was supposed to so I'm not sure what went wrong.

Hi Blair72
It's good to have you join us. I'm sorry hear you've been dealing with infection. It looks like we had very similar surgeries. Fortunately I didn't have any infection.

It's very possible you have done nothing wrong to cause this. I think we would be amazed how easily infection can happen and it was probably something that found it's source in the hospital. I hope you get to feeling better soon. Keep us posted on your progress.
's, Rita
