Back in Hospital - So sick

Christa -

I feel your pain!! I am SO sorry this happened to you also!! It totally stinks becasue I was about 13 weeks out so I thought I was in the all clear zone also.

Friday was 2 weeks from my last surgery. I feel good too, although I am still kind of early recovery. Plus my Dr said it would be slower going this time due to the sepsis going in, plus all the bowel repairs. In any case I totally get your paranoia. I asked my Dr that exact same thing - how can I not be afraid this is going to happen again 13 weeks from now. He said he was just and nervous as me! Yikes! Then he said every week we keep you healthy, it's a week less scared for both of us. The ONE thing I will do different this time though is to call him for every stinking fever - even 99. Because I don't know about you, but until the day I turned septic, I didn't have a high fever - but I was having low grade fevers, particularly at night. So personally I think these Dr's saying low grade is ok is for the birds. When I googled abdominal abscess, it actually called out a low grade fever as a symptom.

In any case I'll end my novel because I could go on and on

I'm glad your doing better and I hope this is the road to permanent recovery for you

Hugs,

Starbgirl

OK this is just bothering me I have been on the phone to the DR twice in the last week low fever pain that is different and I had an exam last Monday got the all clear then this stuff starts everytime I call they say "Take a percocet your fever is not that high, wait til Monday well it is Monday and I am still running the low temp at night so I am going to my GP I can tell him everything he listens and get some tests done to see if this discharge and pain needs to be taken care of I am supposed to be going back to work but after sitting for a few I stand up and woosh I soak a pantiliner but my OB does not seem to be worried about this. Then I read these boards and I guess I am just not pushy enough so I will call today pass the OB and go straight to the DR that I know does something besides say evrything is fine

kkhill,

OH MY i worry for you, keep on that dr. I had a high temp 102 + had a discharge clear yellow foul smelling and my dr after doing an exam told me i was young and healthy put his hand to my forehead said i didn't have a fever and shooed me out of his office, I cried for hours, i knew something was wrong and he completely dismissed me. So of course i second guessed myself and let the fever, vomiting, pain and discharge continue for another week, by then i was so sick i went to the ER and was in surgery the next morning.

They did not even take my temp at my 4 week check up. So in a few minutes I am calling my long time family dr and go talk to him since I cant get any aswers from the OB doc I was told unless I have a fever above 101 that will not go away with tylonal or percocet I would be fine My normal temp is about 96.7 so when I get to 99 I feel it I have 0 energy and am supposed to return to work next monday. And yes Friday night after being told nothing was wrong I cried for hours and then decided it was time to see my normal DR and just to throw in one more curve ball I had MYRSA in November so I am really scared of infections

kkhill,

I was upset that my doctor of 15 years would not take me seriously, and i let it go too long. If nothing else demand to have a sonogram or a CT, the abcess took my ovary that we kept and did bowel damage, so now i am recovering from another surgery and have no hormones at age 35.

This is the first time I read this post and I can definitely understand what you are going through except my situation happened backwards from yours. I had an ablation on June 1. By mid August everytime I ate I felt like someone was stabbing my in my stomach. Then by september the pain got so bad that I was fainting with every episode. So...I stopped eating. Then my stomach distended and I had the runs and fever. The doctors did not listen to me. I ended up in the Hospital with an adscess and was told "we think" you have chrons. After draining the abscess and sending me back home with literally on a pill contail for chrons, I was back in the hospital twice before christmas. Well......I spoke with the gyno that did my ablation (I had been working with GI doctors because I never guessed the issue was female related). Gyno brought me in and had me do a level 2 US. The next week he scheduled exploratory surgery and guess what........I had adhesions and abscesses and my appendix had gotten hard and attached itself to the back of my Uterus. Eveything was a mess. He said that he never saw anything like. Now I am obsessed and paranoid with thinking I will form another abscess. The GYNO doctor seems quite certain I will not. He said he cleaned everything up really well. So we will see. All we can do is hope and pray that we stay healthy.

Ladies - you are all in my thoughts and prayers.
We want so badly to have faith and trust in our doctors. We want to be 'good girls' for them. When I read stories like yours it really drives home that as much as we WANT to trust them, as much as we WANT to be good girls, that sometimes we have to be old meenie demanding witches (or thats how we think they'll think of us).
I have some issues with my retina's and it wasn't until I became the demanding that my doc and I REALLY understood each other -- today I can say that we have a wonderful, near perfect, relationship.
Thank you for posting about your abcesses. Its scary to read, and I'll be thinking of you and praying for you, but you've shown me another thing to watch out for and reminded me that sometimes we just need to stomp our feet to get the care we deserve
