well mineral oil and some metamucil works great after about 12 hours, so feel better. I do think I should be able to get around much better, everybody seems to be doing so good here. But then again, haven't spoken or seen my surgeon since I woke up from surgery....thought that was a bit weird. would like to know how big the fibroids were etc...anyway, am dealing now with not being able to sleep, yaawn...

I had my TAH BSO on Tuesday, 2/12/08. It went pretty well. The surgeon said there was about 1000 times more scar tissue/adhesions than she originally suspected, so was really glad that I chose to have it done. I came home from the hospital in the afternoon on Friday and it is great to be home. I just can't get comfortable in my bed for more than and hour at a time and it hurts really bad to re-position myself. That is frustrating, but if that is the worst thing that happens, I'll manage. (Guess that is why I am writing this at 4:15 in the morning). Thanks for all your thoughts and prayers. They really have helped.

Valentines Day surgery - Glad to be home now

My doctor used the da vinci robotic arm to do my surgery. I have had 3 c-sections so this is not near as painful. He was able to leave my right ovary and hope that puts menopause off for a little while. I have 5 small inciisions across my belly and also my right shoulder is bruised from the position that I was in for the 3 1/2 hour surgery. My potassium was too low so they had to drip a bag in me to get it back up. My bllood pressure was too low for a little while but when she got it at 102/56, that allowed me to leave the hospital. Thanks to all on this site, it helped me to understand things better an also to have a better understanding of what would happen.

well after ending up back in the hospital on friday where i was completely dehydrated and all. i caught that stomach virus that has been going around. they had to give me two bags of fluids, three shots of phenergan, and two shots of delota they sent me home telling me to get some rest. i'm feeling much better now although i still can't sleep for much more than an hour and a half at a time. i really hope that changes soon. other than that i feel much better now than i did before the surgery.

Hi- I am new to all this. I am 31 single mom of 3. I had an LSH/BSO on Monday, Feb 11,2008. I came home from the hospital on Tuesday Feb 12. I think I may be over doing it. I am an active person and I cant be in the bed for too long without getting irritated. My fiance is having a hard time dealing with me cause I keep getting up and moving around and going up and down stairs and wanting to keep my house in order. My ex-husband has the kids, so that has been a blessing in itself. My concerns are that I am having a lot of lower back and side pain. I have been taking gas x and stool softners to help w/ tryin to get that first dreaded BM to come about. I have a heating pad on my back and ice pack on my swollen belly. Still takin my pain meds just to keep me comfortable. I havent experienced any menopausal symptoms and I am not sure if that is because I am on Vivelle -dot HRT already or what. My surgeon offers little help or advice... I could use all the advice I can get at this point.
THis site has been a true blessing-- I have had so many questions answered and its nice to know that I am not laying here in bed alone going crazy.
I apologize if it seems as though I am rambling... Trying to type and being on pain meds -- is not the easiest thing.

I wish all the rest of you that are in post-op stage a speedy recovery.

Hi, I had a TLH/BSO on Valentine's Day. Very early am. I got to go home that evening. I was glad as I have fibromyalgia and could not get comfy in that hard bed with hard pillows!

Everything went well, and I am up and walking around a little bit, several times a day.

As I expected, the beforehand waiting was definitely the worst part. It always is for me. I am so happy to be 2 days post-op, home and fairly comfortable. Now to remember to be careful and not do too much too soon. I definitely will be careful.

I am very grateful for this site, the lovely e-mail reminders, and the caring. The info is so great and I appreciate it so much.

I got the swelly belly band and chillow pillow, but have not needed either one yet. I have 5 cuts, no stitches, no bandages - they use a special glue. It will eventually come off as the cuts heal, and with showers.

I have pain meds, not needed as much as I thought, and the small, flat, travel pillow I'm using for a belly pillow is perfect.

Good luck to all of you, and thank you so much for all the great encouragement and help.

Hello, everybody. I've been reading this site for a while now, ever since I got the go ahead for my hysterectomy. It finally happened on 2/13 after many ultrasounds, D&C's, endometrial biopsies, etc. I had a large fibroid in my uterus. The doctor took the uterus and ovaries. He did it lapriscopically, leaving 3 very small and one large incision. I'm very, very surprised at how good I feel. My biggest complaints are that I can't sleep very well in bed and it hurts badly when I get sit down or stand up. I've had BMs with no problem, and no problem with gas pains. I feel blessed....and a little scared that everything bad is just waiting to hit all at once! This site has been great and I just wanted to post my thanks to all of you for posting about your experiences and giving the rest of us a glimpse of what to expect!

I just got home from the castle. TAH went as planned ~ 1 1/2 long surgery and my doc said that my ovaries looked excellent!

I don't remember too much about Thursday except for the pain. They had me on a PCA pump and I couldn't stay awake enough to push the button. Finally, around 11 pm, they called my doc and got permission to give me some kind of shot. That did the trick ~ it took me from an 8 down to a 2 in about 30 minutes. At midnight, my nurse made me get up and sit in a chair ~ dr orders ~ I had a 101 degree fever. I sat in the chair for about 45 minutes and used the little breathing machine and my fever started to go down and was gone by morning.

Yesterday went much better. My pain didn't get above a 2 all day. I was able to pass gas in the morning and was switched over to a soft diet. They removed my catheter and I was able to get up quite a bit ~ even walked the halls.

Today they took out my drain and iv...I was able to shower! I felt human again!! My husband came and got me around 5 and I am getting ready to go and lay down for a while. I have only been taking motrin since yesterday morning for pain....I am considering taking a Lortab to help me sleep tonight.

Best wishes to you all!
