Not bleeding post op, 5 days, given blood thinner, self catheter, need advice please

Hello everyone, I am new at this. I read a lot, but don't respond very often and I do apologize for that. I hope to get better with that soon. I am post op 5 days TVH and I am not bleeding at all, I was given a shot in my stomach Lovenox for blood clots (which left a bruise the size of a baseball) and was told my wbc count was low, but nothing to be concerned about. I am not complaining about not bleeding but is this normal? I was told I would bleed a little. I also have to self catheterize myself (nothing new due to my Parkinson's), but I am having a hard time voiding at all and have had to use the catheter 3 times today. The last two times there was blood in the catheter and my urine was dark brown. I know that isn't normally good, but after having surgery, I just didn't know. I also have dystonia, where my body twists and turns (I look like I am having a seizure, but I am not) and thought I may have pulled a stitch on the inside. I am not sure if I should call my doctor. I would really appreciate the kind advice. Thanks so much!!!

I pray that you will be feeling better soon. I think that because you have so many things happening, a call to your doctor would be good.

When I was still in the hospital after my hyst, I had the brown urine in my catheter bag. They gave me antibiotics and had me drinking a lot more water. I think your doctor should be called - even if you are told that these things are not something that you should worry about - at least you will have communicated all that is happening.

Blessings on you ....

(((cang)))
It's so good to have you join us here. I'm sorry for the struggles you're having. I feel you should call your dr about the blood in your urine. This isn't normal I don't believe. It sounds very much like you could have developed a urinary track infection. They will often cause the urine to look like this if they are getting pretty bad.

I had to self cath too and developed some UTI's because I wasn't fully emptying my bladder. It concerns me that you will end up in significant pain and this could also spread to your kidneys without some immediate attention. If this isn't the problem, I think it's something your dr needs to check out for you anyway. Can you call the dr on call tonight?

As far as not having any bleeding, I don't think that is so unusual. Everyone is different. I had some bleeding right away after surgery and then it stopped for almost two weeks when it started in again. If you talk to your dr you could mention your concern over this and get his opinion on it too.

I hope you get to feeling better soon. Please let us know what you find out about all this.
's, Rita

Thanks for the advice. I am on an antibiotic already and I took some bladder spasm medicine last night but this morning I did void a little, but I still used the cath and filled up two 15 ml tubes and one of them had blood in it.

I would certainly call the When I had my foley catheter, my bag filled with blood after 14 days (I had it for a total of 18 days). They immediately wanted to see me and when I went in, it turned out to be a UTI. I ended up on antibiotics for 7 days. Please call your doctor.

Blessings on you ....
