burning/pinching pain (6 weeks recovering)

Hello, I am new to this site and wished I would have found it before my surgery which was done on Jan. 3. (tah, hope I got the abbreviation right for total abdom.)

I had a large fibroid tumor on the left side and have had burning/pinching pain on the left side of my incision which started about 10 days after my surgery. The only way I can describe it is that it feels like I accidentally touched a deep fryer or something. When I cough or sneeze it is excruciating. I had a catscan done and there were no abnormalities and I don't have a fever or anything. Just wondering if anyone else has had this type of pain. I would really appreciate any insight as I am becoming quite anxious about it.

Thanks,

Michelle

burning/pinching pain (6 weeks recovering)

Michelle:
I think it is one of the hundreds of stitches we have inside holding things together... I had a great first week, but the last three days have been very painful. Did you feel good and do too much? Make sure you have a small pillow by you at all times for when you sneeze/cough. Put it on your belly and put pressure on it. My hardest thing is getting up out of bed. I thought I had that down to a tee, but yesterday it felt like someone was sucker punching me.
It's worth a mention to your doctor, but if you have no fever, I think it is just part of the healing process.
Good luck

burning/pinching pain (6 weeks recovering)

Michelle,
I agree with PattieO. It takes many months (even up to a year) for your body to heal and get back to normal. We only see the outside, but there is much healing on the inside. Muscles have been cut and restitched, blood vessels tied off, organs moved and relocated and let's don't forget about the stuff and gas moving around in our tender bowels. You are still healing and as we have all learned from this wonderful site, we have to listen to our bodies and take it easy. My doc says the burning feeling can be internal stitches being pulled or stretched as we go back to our pre-surg activity. Best wishes with your continued recovery!!

burning/pinching pain (6 weeks recovering)

Hello cozzie,

I had that pain when I got out of bed wrong (lasted about four days). Oy! That pain was bad and rest is the only advice I have for you. Be careful, I went back to work at six weeks and had to lift, that pain again!, rest was the only thing that helped. Nine weeks out, I'm careful, but feeling pretty good!

Good luck, I hope you feel better soon,

burning/pinching pain (6 weeks recovering)

Hello all,

I am in week 11 post op and also experiencing the burning pain. Mine became noticable when I returned to driving, about 4weeks post op. I drive a sportscar with very hard suspension and the unforgiving bumps on our bad roads were causing havoc with my inards.
So bad I could hardly walk for 3 days after, with a constant burning sagging pain which got worse and worse as soon as I got ot of bed in the morning.I hate the thought of going for a drive now, even though it is a Porche!! Now the same pain happens every time I sneeze and or cough. If I do too much housework, it gets worse and worse. And today i did 30 minutes of gardening, bending over from the waist, on top of my usual 1 hour vacuuming, and normal housework, and what do you know-- I can hardly get up and straighten up.The pain is pretty intense, and in a totally different place then before. To me that has proven the point that it definitely is an internal stitches/ tissue problem, affecting different abdominal muscles, and even at 11 weeks, it is still very early days. I will have to take it easy for at least 2 days now for it to subside, but I have yo admit, it never goes away completely.
By about 10 am, i strap myself up with a backsupport strap, which I bought at the chemist, and which I wear back the front. I could't live without it at the moment. It has velcro ends and you just adjust it as tight as you want. I also wear lycra support undies- big ones , unpannelled, with side seams, all the way over my belly button. Try it-it does work.

burning pain

Hi ladies. I don't know if my appendix were taken out, they didn't mention it. I think I will call the doctor Monday and ask just out of curiosity. Will let you know about that. I did get a binder when I was in the hospital and it does help when I wear it. I noticed that the 600 mg of ibuprofen is giving me headaches real bad lately. I think I will switch to Tylenol or something else. I can't take anything too strong and still be able to function. I am so anxious to start exercising again but I am afraid too! I did go to the mall and walk today which felt really good. Maybe a little yoga will do me good if I don't stretch too too much. Any suggestions on that?

I get a pain like you describe too, feels like a rather small spot on my right side, about midway between my bikini incision and belly button. If I twist wrong, or accidentally use my abs sitting up or laying back, or especially if I stretch, it feels like a hot poker is stuck in my abdomen! It's been my most painful spot all along, it's lessened with time but still hurts pretty bad if I anger it. I'm guessing he sensation is of pulling 2 parts that were sutured together? Hopefully it goes away eventually.
