Irish Blue Eyes plus .... I feel like I'm looking a bit haggard too... My complexion is sallow and I've got the matching set of black luggage under my eyes like some other women (on some days). One thing I do have to say I'm happy about however is the fact that I have lost weight... I was on hormones in the past to control my hemorraging and they really puffed me up. I'm actually down to the place where I'd like to stay! Haven't felt much like putting on my face or doing my hair and I'm still favoring very high waisted pants, panties, tights and dresses.... anything to not put pressure on my incision which is still a bit sore. Next week I plan to take myself out shopping for a couple of spring (in the northern hemisphere) outfits for my triumphant return to the working world.
nighty night all

Hello princesses and hystersisters,

I cannot beleive that just a few weeks ago, I was feeling lousy and scared to death as my surgery date was looming. now I am entering week 4 and I am so amazed at how much better I am. I had a total abd hysto due to a super-large fibroid deep in my pelvis that was compressing my colon and bladder. Nothing like a combo of urinary frequency and constipation. I feel so much better. I was on full liquids for the last 3 months because of my GI symptoms. I can finally eat solid foods again.

I too got a bit carried away with feeling better and though I don't think I was doing too much, my body did send me a message to continue to take it easy. Yesterday I "thought" about slowly starting to exercising again. It seems as if the mere thought was enough to cause cramping and some sharp pains that made me reconsider. (I'm sure it was a coincidence). I did not let it discourage me though. I just took it easy and listened to my body.

Today I was able to do a short ride on the stationatry bike at low resistance settings. It felt good. I didn't over do it. Hopefully I won't pay for it later. I'm still along ways away from teaching 4-6 aerobics classes per week.

TAH + ovaires (2/21/08) due to large fibroid and failing ovaries. HRT since 12/07 (LUPRON 3month therapy)

Thanks Cynthia, I will try eating more salads during the day and save the full meal for when he piles it on.

So there is hope for me yet. I do not teach aerobics but I long to be able to get back in the gym. I did not think I would but I sure do. I don't feel ready for the bike yet but, Tanzi46402 you are encouraging.

Does anyone notice hair growing faster?

OK so i'm 4 weeks post op and i'm really noticing that i'm having to shave (legs underarms, bikini line) much more frequently.

I'm very fair naturally and pre op was a job about every 2-3 weeks (I'm not a very hairy person) but now I'm shaving every 2nd/third day and it's much coarser than before.

I now have prickly legs, Scratchy even, never had that before. Pity it wasnt DHs head, he could re grow some of what he lost. LOL

FL & Jett - I'm thinking about your dr appts tomorrow and want you to know that I'm praying for you. I pray that your drs will explain everything clearly and that you will be at peace with the recommended treatments, if you must have treatments.

Speaking of prayers (warning: this paragraph is about my DD)...my kids have been learning "The Lords Prayer" and tonight after my 9 year old DD said her prayer silently she proudly said "I started my prayer by saying 'Dear God in Heaven, Hollywood be your name'". My DH and I just busted out laughing. It was the hardest I've laughed since my surgery and yes, it hurt.

I was able to be more active for a longer period of time this past weekend than the weekend before but I still feel like I'm on the low end of the curve. My swelly belly makes me look at least 5 months pregnant...no joke. I'm thinking about buying maternity pants! I have nothing to wear. My face is pale and I've got dark circles under my eyes. My boss (also a good friend of mine) saw me at church and then emailed me to say that it was great to see me but it sucked to see me look so uncomfortable. He went on to tell me not to rush back to work. I guess I looked as bad as I felt! I didn't see him until I was leaving and I was in a lot of pain by that time. Anyway, I have my post op appt tomorrow so I guess the dr will tell me if I'm not doing as well as I should. Of course it's easy to blame my fibromyalgia for recovering slowly but I don't want to use that as a crutch if I just need to be more active or something.

Good night sisters!

melelee that is so funny. my niece has a bit of a hearing problem and i had given a lamb that said the "now i lay me down to sleep" to her little brother when he was born. well, she thought it said: Now I lay me down to sleep, i pray the lady down the street". we have no idea how she thought that made sense but poor thing that is what she would hear when she would listen to it. we thought it was so funny though. she laughed it off when we told her how it really went.
anyway, glad to know that your boss isn't rushing you. i know that there are many out there that feel pressured to return to work. when i was with my church friends last weekend at a wedding several of them said i looked like i was feeling really good and i told them "make up and a little smile can hide a lot". i am careful to tell people that i am feeling good. i always tell them but it comes and goes. yesterday morning i felt better than i had in a year and a half, but by the time church was over i didn't feel well at all. i'm learning that this is at least a 6 week process and i need to take it one day at a time.

prayers for all of you going to see the doctor tomorrow. oh how i wish i could see my doctor before april 7th. i would just like some reassurance that i am recovering nicely. i would hate to wait 7 weeks and them tell me "oh oh, you over did it and we see some problems". but we will hope for the best
good night ladies. blessings to all

Melelee, that's hilarious. My youngest, when starting school, was learning our national anthem which starts "Australian's all let us rejoice, for we are young and free" and he raced home this day and sang it for me. It went- "Australians all eat ostriches, for we are young and free"!!!! LOL

And then much later on I read in a Womans magazine about another lady who's child had sang exactly those same words! I was absolutely blown away.

Tanzi and all... I too am amazed at how much better I am feeling since my surgery, in terms of my physical state in general, excluding the soreness of my incision and the occational swelly b....

I had been hemorraging mostly on and sometimes off for @ 5 years and had 2 myomectomies and a bout with the hormone Lupron in between. I had extremely low energy and looked like the walking dead not to mention that my abdomen was enlarged due to fibroid growth.
Today, on my 4 week anniversary since the surgery, I can't believe I'm sitting here without a pair of overnight pads between my legs and a plastic garbage bag under me on the bed.... I mean really... what a way to live!

As far as exercising is concerned, I am looking forward to getting out there and moving it again! I plan to start with riding my bike to the train station (part of my daily commute) and some gentle yoga. There are some suggestions on this site for strengthening our abdomens as well, which I might try out.

Have a great day sisters and congradulations... we are nearly all a month out now! Onward and upward!

Liilaa, I think that is my problem. I am feeling better now than I did preop, so I was going awol on the restrictions that are still in place. I am going to behave a few more weeks so I don't get a hernia behind the incision or anything as my doc said yesterday, I pushed it too far on a few things........but You are right, most of us are feeling a lot better now than we did before we got this done..........I am glad you are doing better. See the world in a entire new light eh?
