glad I found this site

I had rectocele surgery on October 29th - did the whole recovery thing as told no lifting, etc., it took 2 months before I felt better. I was told not to have intercourse for three months and was told I would feel like I was 25 again. Well not so, it is painful. My doctor is suggesting an injection into the muscle to relax it. Has anyone heard of this? It will be day surgery since I need to be put out.

This surgery was more involved than I ever expected. I wish I had found this website sooner I have felt so alone - not something you talk to everyone about.

BAB3
wow 2 months I can't imagine. What is he planning on using in the injection? I am not familiar. I see you don't sleep either. Hope you are not too worried about this. If an injection will relieve the pain then I say go for it. Make sure you ask what the down side could be and then find out what he will be using. I always do a search to see if there is anything they didn't tell me about and could I live with the consequences. Before my surgery I watched more then a dozen surgeries of similiar procedures so I knew what questions to ask. I just didn't expect it to keep me down for so long. I have alway gone back to work after surgery or delieveries within 24 hours. This is a surprise that I can't be up for very long. keep us posted as to what he is planning to use

It will be a depo medrol marcion injection, it is suppose to help relax the large muscle which I guess is the one he had to cut and tighten. I also believe he will need to stretch or cut the opening of the vigina. I am so bummed out by all this. He never told me anything - he did tell my husband when I came out of surgery that there was a lot of tissue to remove and there might be a chance things would need to be tightened. Thanks for your concern.

Rectocele surgery 10/29 ~ still in pain

I am sorry you are still having pain. I am almost a month out and I think the rectal repair hurts far more than the hysterectomy! Today is the first day that I have sat upright most of the day. I have to be reclined alot to keep weight of my bottom or it hurts. I hope you feel better soon!

I've talked to some women who had to use a small dildo to slowly stretch out the vagina, and work their way up to larger ones. Its a slow process but the women I talked to said it was worth it.

Rectocele surgery 10/29 ~ still in pain

Bab3, you might want to look into a pelvic floor PT. I had scar tissue and lots of pain from the perineal reconstruction. I went to my PT and she used ultrasound and massage to break down the tissue and make things flexible. It only took 3 visits to get it all resolved and alot less painful than injections. I have to say for me it took almost 10 months for things to feel comfortable and normal again.

I really did not think sex wold feel normal again ever but it does. It has been a year this month. Some really important advise my Dr gave me was to go REALLY slow with sex, to have forepay for atleast 1/2 hour, be on top so you would have more control, and use lots of lube. Sex is actually a really good way to break down the scar tissue too.

I was at the point of injections when I tried the PT. Maybe this is something you can look into as well. Good luck and hang in there. It will get better one day!
