Almost a year ~ bleeding and pain after sex

Hi, rebekahlynn! to Hyster Sisters!

I hope you will enjoy being a part of this friendly group. On a site the size of this one there's almost always going to be someone who can relate to concerns you have. I'm glad you found us and decided to join!

I was around seven months post-op when I started having some spotting after intercourse. In my case it turned out that I had developed some granulation tissue on my vaginal cuff. My doctor first treated that tissue with silver nitrate but because I had so much granulation tissue, he ended up surgically removing it in his office. (That's not the norm - just my bad luck. ) For more information about granulation tissue and the vaginal cuff, you can check out this link: Vaginal Cuff - Silver Nitrate - Cauterization.

Another possible cause for spotting or bleeding after intercourse is vaginal dryness or vaginal atrophy. Those conditions result from an insufficient amount of estrogen in the vaginal tissues. It's easily corrected by using a vaginal estrogen. There's more information about all of that in this link: Vaginal Dryness.

I'm sure there are other causes for bleeding this far post-op but the two mentioned above are quite common. You are right--it's time to go back to the doctor to have this checked. Please let us know what you find out, okay?

Almost a year ~ bleeding and pain after sex

I too am having pain during and after intercourse. I get a burning sensation, and sometimes bleeding. I am 10 wks post op, and had an ultrasound last week. The Dr. said I have something at my vaginal cuff. He doesnt know what it is. He wants to wait 6wks and see if it goes away. If not and I still have pain upon exam, he would like to do surgery to remove it! That was not what I wanted to hear! I had LAVH, and now may have to have an abdominal incision. I thought maybe it was granulation tissue?

Almost a year ~ bleeding and pain after sex

Good evening! Having read your responses I feel much better! I am 8 months post op and just recently had pain, burning sensation, and spotting after intercourse. I am not looking towards any more surgery but this is obviously something that my Doctor needs to know about. I have had dryness and have gone through enough to certainly know the estrogen is low. I'll be looking at a few options with my Doctor to help along in all this "newness" occuring with my body! Take care, All.

Yep, same thing here..some granulation...and also the vaginal walls were "thin and pale" my dr said. So he put me on the premarin vag cream. HELPED tremendously.I know its hard to NOT start worrying ....but talk to your dr. ITs been five years since my hysterectomy and I have only been on the vag cream for a year. Sex life is norm now. Occasional ky needed but no bleeding now.
