major hemorrhoid problems

since about 3 days after surgery, I have been having major problems with this usally really small one hemorrhoid, which now seems more like the size of a fist. I get to the point where the only place I can sit or lay (alot times I have to lay so my butt is not touching anything)because of major pain from it.

Any one else? When I wipe from peeing it seems like there is a major lump in an area where it shouldn't be, I can't see it so my hubby did look at it for me and reassured me that all the lump was my hemorrhoid. My doc yesterday did give me a prescription cream for it and my bowel movements have finally started to become more regular and solid than they were for several days.

This might sound funny, but for hemorrhoid treatment my step-mom advised taking an ice cube and wrapping it in a tissue/face cloth and wedging it in "there" until it melts. It should reduce the swelling.

A friend of mine recommended using Tucks wipes after using the toilet - they are soothing and cooling, and also cleanse the area. Just use your finger to hold it against the 'roid for a minute.

Also, Preperation H helps.

If you are allowed to take sitz baths be sure to take one that it is not to warm as anything too warm will increase the swelling. I used ice tied up in a rubber glove wrapped in a paper towel and that was probably the best help. I would also spray OTC pain spray on the area along with hemorrroid cream that they sent me home with from the hospital and line a pad with tucks pads and use this throughout the day. Ibuprofen also helps with swelling if you can take it. I feel your pain and hope you get well soon.

major hemorrhoid problems

I had the same thing after my TAH on 1/13/08, and the roids were the worst of my problems. I didn't even need pain meds for the hysterectomy pain, it was the constipation and roids that were the problem, so I know how you feel. The roid pain was so bad that I actually fainted from it once. It can be terrible.

The good news is that they do subside. Best thing is to make sure you try to have normal, regular bowel movements. Once I stopped being constipated (with hard bowel movements and lots of pushing, worst thing for roids) the roids cleared up immediately. To solve this I drank tons of water, took fiber pills, milk of magnesia, prune juice and ate plenty of yoghurt with live cultures (to replenish the healthy bacteria in your gut after taking antibiotics.) Of all of these, I think the yoghurt was the most important. Oh, and I didn't ask anyone and took baths as often as I wanted taking care to keep the belly incision out of the water (and I had other interior repairs as well.)

Good luck. I promise it will pass.Hang in.

I had terrible hemorrhoid problems too after my extensive repairs. All I did was use the stool softeners--- and I am still using them five and a half weeks later. I also used a donut to sit on. My DH made me one out of bubble wrap and duct tape but you can buy them at the drug store, I'm pretty sure. It is a PIA for sure but it does get better with time.

Good luck.

major hemorrhoid problems

I had this problem as well right after my surgery. I was on antibiotics for a bladder infection and I guess the antibiotics gave me diarrhea. I didn't mind the diarrhea at first because at least I was having a BM but then I got raw. I used prescription creme to put on it. And I bought some unscented baby wipes for sensitive skin. Those things about set me on fire. It didn't seem like the creme was helping that much and I started just using regular vaseline which I think helped me more than anything.
I would agree with another poster that a Sitz bath may help if you are allowed to use one but in my case I couldn't use one.
I'll be praying for you

I second (or third, or whatever we're on ) the motion for ice. I have been known to put ice in ziplock bags, wrap the ziplock bag in a washcloth (so my skin doesn't freeze) and lie on my side with the icepack in position. It really does help -- plus, you're supposed to be getting lots of rest right now anyway.

Also, you don't want to be straining with bm's at all. If you're not using a stool softener (not a laxative -- I'm talking about something to make it more comfortable to go potty), please ask your about using one. It might make all the difference, but don't do anyting "on your own" in the early post-op phase.

to you.

I find the Prep H also helps soften the stool, but maybe that's just me?
