PHARMACY ERROR - Have someone check your painkillers

the Doctor forgot to put the strength and dosage on my pain medication prescription which caused quite a scene at the pharmacy after 5:00 on a Friday when they couldn't get ahold of my Doctor.
The same thing happened to me. The resident who discharged me after the hysterectomy forgot to put the dosage. Worse yet, she had written the prescription on a pharmacy pad from the medical school she was affiliated with (which is in a city a good hour from here), so the pharmacy was faxing the school and getting no response. She was supposed to have used a pad from the local hospital so she could be contacted. My husband ended up calling my doctor because I had gone 8 hours without pain relief, but the pharmacy refused to let him prescribe the proper medication and dosage. I don't know why they couldn't have just destroyed the other prescription and started anew with my own doctor's prescription (I would think he would know better what he wanted than the resident anyway ). Anyway, they finally got ahold of the resident to get the dosage and filled the prescription. Except when my husband got home from the pharmacy with the prescription (and the doctor's office was closed), I noticed on the bottle that it said I could only take 1 Percocet per day. I started freaking out wondering how I was supposed to make it on one pill a day. Fortunately, I had another bottle of Percocet my doctor had prescribed for a previous surgery and was able to check that. My husband called the doctor's office the following morning and found out that the pharmacy had made a mistake and that I was supposed to take the Percocet every 4-6 hours. I'll never use that pharmacy again after this last fiasco!
