Swelly Belly 5-6 weeks post-op?

My swelly belly is non-existent for most of the day but come 3 pm everyday, it comes. It swells so much I have to undo my pants due to the discomfort.

This is a challenge as I work full-time. Lots of long shirts help but I feel like I am constantly in maternity wear because of this. My boss is pregnant and we dress just alike...haha

Does anyone else experience this? I get no answers from my doctor as he does not buy into a lot of the things that I have read online. Surely I cannot be making this happen psychologically, right? Or is there a medical explanation that my doctor may not realize?

have you tried a binder to wear under your clothes? you can get them in a department store...they might make you much more comfortable.

Becky - If you are making your swellybelly happen psychologically then we are all a bunch of psychos!! I think this is pretty common. I am experiencing the same thing on a smaller scale. But I don't have a full time job to go to. I think the more we do the more the belly tends to swell. But eventually it will go away. As with everything else, it's different with each person.

I'm not sure some of these doctors know much about the recovery part of the surgery they perform. When I told my doctor yesterday about the hormonal rollercoaster ride I've been on her question for me was "did I take your ovaries?". She acted like that wasn't suppose to happen. She said she guessed my ovaries just didn't like being messed with.

I think, though, that the voice of experience from hundreds of ladies who have been through the same experiences speaks more to the truth than what a lot of doctors have learned from "books". We may not have an explanation but at least we can take comfort in the fact that others, who have been there and experienced that, have gotten through and are better for it.

Hysterscared35, I am at the same recovery check point. I have not returned to work yet...will be next week. I just received my Swelly Belly band yesterday, purchased off this website. I intend to use it, because, YES by mid-afternoon my belly area, including incision is swollen and itchy and burning. I will keep you all posted on how it works. I expect it will work wonders!

afrenchry:
Would you please post and let me know how that works? I got a binder from the hosp. but it doesn't cool down... Let me knowif you think you could wear it under your clothes, as I foresee a problem at work... Have to stand on concrete all day... Plus I am assuming when I get back, others will want to go on vac. so will have to stay OT also.

PattieO, I just now put it on and it feels MARVELOUS! To wear it under clothes (I'm doing a "dry" run today - no pun intended) the wet area can be wrapped in plastic wrap. I did have a wrestling match with the wrap but got it covered, mostly. From the brochure, it indicates the band works best exposed to the air but can be worn under the clothing. I think this will be good to wear to work. I have that stretchy belly band from the hospital too, but all it does is support, it doesn't cool down the area. The Swelly Belly Band is not as large (wide) as the belly binder but for me, with it placed across my incision area, I think it will also give the support needed. Maybe it can be used under the other belly binder. I'll experiment for the next week and report back.

Swelly Belly 5-6 weeks post-op?

I too still have swelly belly and I am 10 weeks post op. Unfortunately, mine does not swell up at 3pm, it is there all day! I have been very active and stepped up my work out routine thinking this will decrease my belly size. Maybe it's doing the opposite effect? It's bigger now than it was pre-op.

Swelly Belly 5-6 weeks post-op?

I, too, have a swelly belly that comes later on in the day. I wake up feeling actually thinner than before SAH. I'll probably be going back to work first week in March and worry about what to wear. I went to a 3 hour training from 12-3 yesterday (just so I wouldn't have to make it up later) at my school. (I teach). Of course, I had to walk around and visit with teachers and students before and after the training. By the time I left there, I could feel my belly starting to swell. Toward the end of the day I also get pains in my bladder. Maybe there is swelling in there, too? I go for 6 week check on Monday, so I'll get some answers (along with the other questions on a very, very long list).

Try an ice pack on your swollen tummies. Our insides have been "assaulted" and I'm sure we all have major tissue swelling happening inside our bellies!
Remember this mantra, that I tell myself all day, every day: "Be Gentle to yourself".
Love and prayers to all you fantastic ladies!

Swelly Belly 5-6 weeks post-op?

I wish I could use a swelly belly band or ice to make it better. But I have plenty of men in the office that I feel I might offend. I am constantly asking my boss (who is female) if it is too noticeable that my pants are undone. It is awful. My pants are a little snug in the am to start due to 5 pounds post-op weight but like I said by 3 pm, I am busting out...it is crazy. I am sure that this too shall pass though.
