Fibroids after hysterectomy?

I have a question. Is it possible to have more fibroids even though they took one out already? When i am laying in bed i can put my hand on my stomach and feel something. I do have my left ovary and my lower back has been bothering me on and off for a while. Just wondering. thanks so much

Fibroids after hysterectomy?

Once your uterus is removed, fibroids cannot grow again. Fibroids are only possible with uterine tissue.

I'd suggest calling your GYN or doctor and getting it checked out. Just because you can't grow a fibroid doesn't mean there can't be other stuff going on.

Fibroids after hysterectomy?

While it is good to know that fibroids can't grow without a uterus (I didn't know that until I just read it above), something could be growing. I'm proof of that.

I also had a TAH but was able to keep my very perfect left ovary and tube. At least it was perfect in November 2005. At my annual appt Wednesday, dr felt a fullness where my left ovary is. After ultrasound, sure enough its as big as a large lemon and the tube is huge as well. He says it doesn't look "angry" but it will likely have to come out. I go back in a month to check to see if the size has changed and if its not any smaller, he wants to schedule surgery. To say the least I am a bit freaked at the possibility of going into surgical menopause at 42. If you have any questions, see your doctor.

Unfortunately, the cervix is part of the uterus and, if you still have it, it is possible for a fibroid to grow again. It's uncommon, but we have had members here who've experienced this.

My one and only enormous fibroid was growing off my cervix. My cervix should have been removed to prevent this from happening again but, sadly, had to be left due to complications. My surgeon warned me that, with still having my cervix and ovaries, it is possible for another fibroid to grow again. I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

Have you spoken to your doctor about this? If you can feel something, you need to seek a medical opinion as soon as possible to find out what it is ~ especially if you're experiencing lower back discomfort.

Will you keep in touch and let us know what you find out? Take care!
