Yep, back to work, but then I only had the laproscopic surgery. I have the tiniest of incisions in my bellybutton, another on my right side (about an inch in length) and a bigger one (2 inches) on my left side - both about at the bikini line. Recovery is about 1/2 the time of a TAH.

My heart goes out to all of you ladies that had a TAH. I can't imagine how tough your recovery has been.

I'm a bit glad to go back to work. Been getting lonely at home, but I'm also a bit freaked out about it too. I'm a science teacher and our trimester just ended so I have tons to do in order to get grades done on time, read over the sub report, set up the next round of labs... (whine, snivel)

Here's a somewhat random question. My students asked why I was going to be gone. "Surgery," was all I said. When pressed I just said that they were getting too personal which started the speculating. I think half of them are convinced I'll be coming back to work with much bigger breasts! Should they ask again, what would you ladies suggest telling them? (I teach middle school.) If I had my appendix out, I'd tell them. If I was having a kidney removed, I'd tell them.... why don't I feel the same about telling my students I had my uterus removed? I've not had any issues telling adults; just wondering how the kids will react.

Hope everyone is getting lots of rest and recovery time.

Hi all...just found this thread. Had an emergency SAH on Feb 29th due to a pseudo-aneurysm in my uterus that would have caused me to bleed to death had they not removed my uterus. I just had a c-section 10 wks ago, and I honestly think the recovery from the hysterectomy so far has been easier, as far as the incision recovery anyway. I am definitely more tired than I was with the c-section, but I'm sure that's due to the large amount of blood loss (had 8 units transfused during surgery) & the second major surgery in 8 wks. I'm moving around pretty well now--that first week is definitely the worst. I am also now on Lovenox shots (blood thinners) 2x/day due to several clots which formed from all the IV's that were discovered just before I was released from the hospital. I am not a fan of shots, so that kinda sucks bigtime...poor DH has to give them to me cause I just can't do it myself (I'm such a baby). Will most likely be on those for 3 mos. :P Oh yeah...and I'm on my 4th UTI in 10 wks. Never had one before my c-section, but now I can't get rid of them!

Today I think I overdid it a bit...went shopping at Target & then Costco--WAY too much walking around. Had to take a nap when I got home. Gosh, I can't wait for my energy to come back!

Hi!

I had to have Lovenox injections (by the DH 'cuz I'm such a baby as well) because I have a clotting disorder - my blood clots when it shouldn't. I'm surprised you have to do them for 3 months. Lovenox is really expensive. In my experience in online support groups for people with the same clotting disorder - docs usually start their patients out on Lovenox, but add in coumadin (warfarin) right way as it's longer lasting and not nearly so spendy. Lovenox and coumadin essentially do the same thing, but by different mechanisms.

What DH and I found to help ease the shots (do they sting like a son of a gun for about 5 minutes after?) is to ice the area before hand (just for a few minutes) and to pinch the skin (fat) really well.

It sounds like you are already going through so very much with the surgeries, UTIs and all. I've found avoiding refined sugar and drinking unsweetened cranberry juice really helped me. (although cranberries are rumoured to affect the effectiveness of coumadin so if you start coumadin therapy ask your doc about cranberries).

Rest, drink lots of liquids and be gentle with yourself. Welcome to our little support group!

The lovenox isn't terrible on our insurance, thank goodness, cause I saw what the price would be if we didn't have insurance & I almost fainted! The reason they're not switching me to coumadin is because they said the lovenox is more reliable--on coumadin I would have to have blood drawn 2x/wk to check my levels & adjust my dosage, but on lovenox I can just stay on the dosage I'm on. That's a good tip about cranberries & coumadin, though--didn't know that, although I had heard that grapefruit could affect coumadin.

Boy, it seems that dr's can't agree on steri strip removal, either. For my c-section, they told me just to let them fall off on their own, but 3 wks later they hadn't even budged, and the dr ripped them off for me. This time around, the dr told me after the first week I could start peeling them off 1 or 2/day until they're gone. Pulled 2 off this morning in the shower (works better when they're wet).

16 Days Post-Op - Cloudy Urine

Hey girls:

Wow, am I the first one of us posting today? Where is everyone????

I took my neighbor to the same estate sale I attended yesterday. I managed to spend $89, while she spent over $400. Wasn't sure how DH would feel about my spending money, but he was OK with it. While shopping, I was carrying around a box with all my treasures, so now I'm sore. Oh well, the price one pays for feeding her addiction.

I've been meaning to ask, is anyone experiencing cloudy urine? I want to say this has been happening since I got home from the hospital. Could be the pain meds, but I'm not sure.

DH and I went out last night. We spent some time with friends and then went out for a delicious steak dinner. I woke feeling really lethargic. I don't eat steak very often, as I know it can be difficult to digest. Could be the ole digestive system is on overdrive.

Gonna kick it on the couch the rest of the day. Would love to hear from the rest of you.

Happy recovery! Hope everyone is well.

I might have overdone it

Hey girls -- I agree, where is everyone? I hope everyone is just taking a lazy Sunday for themselves ...

About the cloudy urine, I have only had that once since I had my catheter out in the hospital. That happens to me every once in a while normally anyway -- meaning when I'm not recovering from major surgery. I would say try to drink more water if you can stand it.

I think I might have overdone it for the last two days. I had an appointment with my GP Friday, and then I had to go to the grocery store. Then I had dinner with my boyfriend and went to his apartment so I could stare at someone else's walls for a change. Then yesterday I had to accompany my mom to a dental appointment because she has a reaction to novacaine and needed a second driver. So then when that was over I was back with my boyfriend for a lazy evening. Just a lot of driving.

Today I'm unbelievably tired. I had to take a sleeping pill last night because I haven't been sleeping and I feel terribly hung over today from that. Swelly belly isn't too bad, but OH am I sore. So today and tomorrow I'm just hanging out.

Overall I'm feeling better than I ever expected to at this stage, 18 days out.

sending love to all my hyster sisters :)

Good afternoon lovely hyster sisters of mine

I feel so much better than last night...my goodness!!!! I was soooooooooo sick. Woke up quite groggy because I took a sleeping pill.

I asked my local priest to come over and bless Alex's remains and to bring me communion...even though I COULD drive, I'm technically not supposed to until tomorrow.

I finished my antibiotics today, thank GOD....so tired of taking them!!!!!! They tasted AWFUL!!!!

Haven't taken any pain meds today, but I think I'm going to take some Ibuprofen in a few....my incision is quite sore.

I don't know about you guys, but the days seem to be flying by since the time change....it's already after 4pm here...where did the day go?

I have my post op appt on Tuesday. :steer:I'm looking forward to having him check everything to make sure I'm okay...though I feel like I am. And that is good....though I know I am going to be in pain for a long, long time.

Hopefully I'll get to spend some time with my 9 month old twin nieces this week....and my new kitty comes on Saturday!!!!!! I hope the week flies by.

I hope all of you are relaxing today and know that I am so grateful to have all of you to talk with. It helps so much to know you guys are out there!!!!!!!!!!!

My belly is swollen I only want to wear my drawstring pajama pants....and that's not going to go over well in public lol

xoxoxo

Good afternoon ladies- Hope all is well with everyone. My belly is really swollen today - we had company last night and I did some Easter shopping for the kiddies so I think yet again I over did it!

I have also had cloudy urine since surgery - probably catheter related. The stairs are the most difficult for me so I limit myself every day to only few times.

Sleeping has also been difficult - I think things are just going through my mind all of the time and I am laying awake thinking about all of the things I should be doing or should I say could be doing but shouldn't!!!! lol

I hope everyone is taking it easy this weekend and just relaxing - take good care of yourselves.

Hugs Kerrie

Hey Jennifer

I found this kitty poem in a magazine ive been reading in my recovery and i guess it really is meant to be shared with YOU ......

The Feline Spirit
And God asked the feline spirit,
"Are you redy to come home?"
"Oh yes, quite so," replied the precious soul,
"And as a cat, you know I am most able to decide anything for myself".

"Are you coming then?" asked God.
"Soon", replied the whiskered angel,
"But I must come slowly.
"Because my human friends are troubled, for you see, they need me, quite certainly."
"But dont they understand?", asked God,
"That you will never leave them?
That your souls are intertwined for all eternity?
That nothing is created or destroyed?
It just is ... forever and ever and ever".

"Eventually they will understand", replied the cat
"For i will whisper in their hearts that I am always with them.
That I just am... forever and ever and ever."
