Small raised bump on incision at 6 mths post op

I was wondering if any of you ladies have experienced this. I'm 6 months post-op. I have been doing great with no major concerns. However, today I happen to check my incision which is almost non-visible on one side. In the center there is a small raised bump that is pretty red. I'm like WHAT! Does anyone know what this might be? I have felt a couple of fairly bad twinges in the last few days, but figured it was gas. I put in a call to the doc., but I really need to know what this is, or if any of you might have experienced this. Thank you all so much!

Hello daisydame,

Although you are much farther along than I am, my incision closed really fast and looks great. But one day, I wore a pair of jeans and the end of the zipper sat wrong on my incision and I got this bump. I messed with it a bit and found that it was kind of like a pimple or something like that. I drained it (it had a scab on it) and kept it so very clean and it went away. A closed incision can get infected, even months after a surgery so I would definately have it checked. I am interested in what your doc has to say about it.

Good luck,

I think you might need to check with the Dr. to see just what it is. It could be an infection of some sort since you said the rest of the incision is almost non visible and this is red.

Hi Ladies,
Well I checked with the doctors office, and the nurse didn't seem too concerned. She said that it could just be a pimple or something. She didn't even say anything about an infection. She also said to try a warm compress. She said since everything is gone she could'nt imagine what it could be, and that it sounds like something my regular MD could look at. Excuse me, wasn't he the one who cut me open? I'm slightly irritated about this.

I would still have it checked by the Dr. Daisy. He needs to see it. If you are concerned about it I wouldn't let them blow me off like that. The nurse is not a Dr. so I would want the Dr. to look at it.

I agree with lugrad82. Let a doctor look at it. I did the warm compresses to bring it to a head. I only mentioned infection because it can happen and wanted you aware of that (can never have TMI). I know it is irritating, but once a surgeon releases us, they mean just that, they release us from their care. If it's not directly related to the surgery they performed...I know, incision, scar, I can see the connection. Anyway, I would be interested in what comes of this.

God bless,

Hi Everyone,
Just wanted to give you an update. Well, the "red bump" did end up getting a little head to it (gross). It has just about dried up. I feel a little silly now, but I guess its never wrong to be on the safe side. I'll keep a further eye on it to make sure it goes completly away. Thank you for your insightful responses. You all are great, and I feel really blessed to have sisters to come to when I have concerns.
I pray for the best of health for you all.
