[b]I know! I can't believe how tired I get. Five weeks since my hysterectomy and I'm fighting fatigue and no appetite, constipation off and on. I had no idea it would take so much out of me. They say 6 weeks and we'll be back at work but honestly I am not seeing that.

Fluid retention and other

I had a lot of fluid retention when I was in the hospital and it took several days for that to come off and I could not pee. Then gas was a big problem. I felt really sick. After I started walking more things began to change for the better.

I wish someone would have told me to buy some bigger panties - but I just cut some I had. And a reacher grabber for the things I drop would have been great too otherwise I have to wait for someone to p/u. I would like to know when my pants or if my pants will ever fit me again. Otherwise, I am doing great.

I went to work at the start of my 8th week. It was tough. I normally work 9 hours a day and a one hour commute each way. I worked 6 hours a day and HAD TO NAP each evening. I think on Wednesday I came home - took a short nap and I ended up going to bed an hour later.

I will say that even though I was very tired all week - I am glad that I went back to work because I think that the longer I stayed home - the more I would have become accustomed to getting a nap between every trip to the store etc.

I would say that the ENERGY is sllllllllllllooooooowwwwly coming back.

[b]I am very impressed with you. 9 hours a day after your hysterectomy? I applaud you. I know the sooner I get back to my schedule, the sooner this tireness will go away...Keep busy and eventually will gain our strength back. Thank you, Rita

I also have painful gas and bm. It also kind of aches when I urinate. Sounds like this may be pretty common but I'm glad to hear it gets better

Having to go the bathroom and not being able to; weird sleep patterns and wondering when and if the menopause will start!!! Other than that 5 days post-op and hanging in there.

The worst part of recovery

I had my hysterectomy Feb.5'th of this year, 2008'. My very first surgery and I thought I'd be feeling lot's better. I will always have compassion for women going through this. Never, ever realized the emotional, physical, pain associated with this. Nobody knows unless they've gone through it themselves. My grown kids care but they don't understand why I don't want to drive over to their homes and visit. I just want quiet most of the time until I feel stronger.

Good Morning RitaEve, I had my surgery 1 day before you, and feel excactly the same way. It was my first surgery also, except for a D&C 25 years ago. I was really assuming i would at the very least not be hurting so much by now, my tummy is still swollen, the nerves are starting to come back so they hurt and feel numb and burning all at the same time. I think inside feels pretty good, but the incision and outside is still a constant reminder. My grown kids, (30 and 26) want to take me out for dinner for my birthday Friday and are disappointed i dont want to go....they have been great though and very helpful. At least we have this site, it has been a wonderful resource and huge support for me!
