Rectal bleeding at 3 weeks post op???

HI all,

This is kind of personal and gross, but hoping a sister can help.

Had my LSH/BSO 3 weeks ago and have had a great easy recovery, been back to work and driving for almost a week now and had a fine post op visit last week.

The last few days I have noticed quite a lot of rectal bleeding. I do have a history of inflammatory bowel disease and it could be a flare up, but I am wondering if its just a surgical complication?? Could they have nicked something? Has this happened to anyone else?

Rectal bleeding at 3 weeks post op???

(((Jen))) please call your DR about this. Any new bleeding needs to be checked out. If it's bright red blood and you are sure it's coming from the rectum, it may be internal hemmorhoids - they're unfortunately not all that uncommon after surgery. However, please don't assume that's what it is - have your DR check it out, and let us know what you find out, OK?

s,
-Linda

This definitely needs to be checked out by a GI doctor ASAP.
It could be hemorrhoids, proctitis or anal fissure.
All can be a complication of IBD.
The GI can look in there and see.

Thanks! I have had problems with internal hemerrhoids in the past, but this was a bit different... more mixed in (if you know what I mean)and not as red, more mucousy, so yes, I am calling both my gyn and Gi doc tomorrow!
