Bulges on stomach and flap of skin over incision

Hi Everyone, I am 5 weeks and 3 days post op and am wondering if anyone else is experiencing bulging on one side of abdomen. I do have a hematoma that I developed 1 day post op. So I am wondering if it is normal to have these bulges or if it is still the hematoma. Also, was wondering if anyone else has skin that is hanging out over incision area, it is like a flap of skin. I never had this before surgery. Hoping my stomach flap will go away. I am going for my six week check up in 4 more days and have tons of questions for the doctor, but still wondering if others are going through some of the same things?

Bulges on stomach and flap of skin over incision

I'll be two weeks post-op tomorrow..I expect I'll have a tummy flap until I get back to the gym and working my abdominals. I'm not a very big girl weighing in at 118 lbs, but I have very fair skin which has zippo elasticity.

I'd be interested in hearing what your doc says about the flap though if you would share how you made out at your appointment..

Always something to worry about and I kick my butt for not requesting a tummy tuck..sigh..I'd lost 75 lbs three years ago and would have loved the opportunity to get rid of that & all the *******g stretch marks..LOL..Ah well, that's what shock does to a person..leaves the logical mind out of it..

Bulges on stomach and flap of skin over incision

Dans Wife,
Thanks for the input. I too, lost about 60 lbs. about 5 years ago and am concerned about the extra skin and stretch marks. I am hoping all this extra skin doesn't stay where it is now. Hoping with return to exercising will help.
thanks again, Denise

Bulges on stomach and flap of skin over incision

Hi there,

I think I have what you're asking. At the left end of my incision, the skin above and below the incision is smooth and flat. On the right end, however, the skin above the incision is a bit bulged and the right side of my belly in general is a tad bigger than the left. I hope this sorts itself out at some point, but it is a minor issue to me.

Bulges on stomach and flap of skin over incision

I have the same thing! My incision is fine and healing well, but the skin above it bulges like something is inside pushing it out. It seems to increase much like swelly belly with activity. I also have a hard spot on my right side just above my incision that seems to swell with activity. Is this kind of what you are all seeing?

Help!

I had my hysterectomy on Feb 8th. I have the horrible bulge above my incision too....My stomach isn't where I carry my weight so it was flat pre-op. Will this bulge go away? It feels as though the incision is attached deeply inside. Will this loosen up? It's so tight it's sometimes even painful. Any advise out there? Thanks, Nancy

Bulges on stomach and flap of skin over incision

Volony1,
By what you described with your belly, it sounds like you are looking right at my stomach while describing it! My incision is great, but the skin is bulging right over the incision, across most all of it. Mine also seems to get worse with activity, and I have a hard spot or two that protrude on one side of my belly more than the other.
Have you been reassured at all that this will go back to normal? I am hoping mine will. I am 5 1/2 weeks post op and was hoping it would look better by now. I do still have bruising from the hematoma so it makes it looks worse i think. Anyways, let me know if anyone has heard about how long it will be like this, thanks!

Bulges on stomach and flap of skin over incision

Nancy Claire,
I haven't heard any answers yet, but am happy to know that I am not the only one experiencing this.
Are you experiencing the same symptoms as I am?

Yep - same symptoms! Is massaging the incision area recommended? The pharmacy says EMU oil is good?
