HELP . . . I had TAH on Feb. 20th. My recovery is going well but this weekend I got the hives!!! I stopped the Percs last Wednesday (after staples removed) and only taking Motrin 800. Any ideas girls . . . or anyone else experiencing the Hives???

Thanks girlfriends!

If I take more than 400mg of motrin my mouth breaks out in cankersores. I had a major allergic reaction to aspirin when I was younger after taking it for years with no problem. I had a bad case of flu and was taking aspirin round the clock, more than I ever had before. Motrin is related to aspirin. I have to be very careful when I take it.
So, it could be the motrin. But with hives it's anybody's guess. Have you changed detergent or soap or anything like that since your surgery? It could also be from stress. If the hives get worse I would see your doctor immediately.

I got hive over the weekend too - after I had stopped narcotics. My doctor said that as long as they weren't a full body break out, or effecting my mouth/lips, I could just treat them with Benedryl, if they continued to call them back.

Thanks for the information. I'm assuming the hives are being caused by the Motrin so the doc is calling me in tylenol with codeine for pain and something different for the hives since benadryl is not really helping. I was really starting to begin to feel out of the "fog" since surgery and this happens!! UGH . . .

Don't know how old you are but I have found out the older I get (54) the more I am alllergic to things I never would have been in the past. Have been hosp. for stings/bites by insects etc. Also I am getting more allergic reactions to medicines that did not bother me before. Good luck
