Hormones a necessity after surgery?

Has anyone elected not to have hormone replacement therapy after surgery? Am I being completely unrealistic if I'm going to try to not take hormones? If I do need them, how soon after being on the other side will I know I need something? Sorry I have so many questions, but I'm starting to get a little nervous as my date approaches on March 10th.

Hormones a necessity after surgery?

I am planning not taking them either...it all depends how I will be feeling after, everyone is different....I also suffer from endometriosis, and I am not sure I should take them since endo feeds on those hormones..I am going to try not to take them, but if I feel completely "not myself" or if I am driving everyone around me crazy, then I will try them I guess. (hope I wont need them)

Hormones a necessity after surgery?

Hi....When is your surgery? I'm glad I'm not alone in my thinking! We will have to keep in touch on the other side and compare notes...

Hormones a necessity after surgery?

ABCGolfer, It certainly a individual decision in reference to the hormones. I was having severe hot flashes before my surgery, like 3-4 per hour, and very intense.. truly sweating, face flushed, etc. It was effecting my work, and i deal with the public all day long. I am also 54, had not had a period since last may, and my uterus, ovaries and cervix were all removed. If I had not had the symptoms before, i would have tried after the surgery to go without. I can tell you though, they have been a huge help. I still have some hot flashes, but 2-3 a day, and not nearly as intense. I still have trouble sleeping, but i m hoping that will level out too.
