Knots under incision

Anyone else have anything like this? I'm two weeks post op today. Incision looks terrific. Staples were removed last Tuesday and there are no other sutures. I felt the incision today and there is a golf-ball sized knot underneath the skin on the far left side of the incision, right at the end. It isn't red or swollen or painful but feels very strange. Anyone else have anything like this?

Hello Subway55,

You should call your doctor about this. It may be a hematoma (pooling of fluid) and it might need to be drained. Although the body can absorb hematomas, it would be up to your doctor.

Good luck,

Knots under incision (update)

Hello Hollyanne~

I have the same sort of knot under my incision. My dr is watching it closely, at this point says it is not a hematoma, however, is watching it. I would suggest the same. Have your doctor check it out.

Hope all goes well with the rest of your recovery.

Knots under incision (update)

Hello,

Definitely talk to your doctor about it. When I had my surgery over a year ago, I had a "knot" on the right side under the end of my sutures. Everything was fine. I asked the doctor about it and he said it would go away. Well mine did go away it took several months. It feels normal now.

Now egg sized lump under and just above incision site

Going in to doctor tomorrow to have it checked out. He said it is normal to feel a dime sized lump on either end of the incision but what I've got is waaaay too big and may need to be drained. Anyone else had any experience with this? I'm two weeks, two days post op.

It's good to hear that your doctor is checking this out before it gets any worse. Will you let us know what you find out? Take care!

Knots under incision (update)

Update (thanks Poodle for moving this to a more appropriate spot).

On the eve of my second day post op I began vomiting and vomited almost 24 hours. My doc seems to think that the large knot is the sutures he put in the abdominal muscle. He think I may have pulled them loose during the severe vomiting while in the hospital. He thinks I now have a hernia. It's a "wait and see" thing... it's not causing any discomfort so he's hoping it'll fix itself but we may well have to open me back up to fix the hernia.

OMG! This has been my burning question! I had a TAH on 3/26 the doctor did internal stitches and then glued and steri-stripped the external inicision. That is healing beautifully but the lump at one end is a concern. I see my Dr. on Friday for my 2 wk F/U. I'll ask if there is anything else that can be done and let you know.
