Stool softener ?

For those ladies that had any kind of a vaginal hysterectomy, did you take any stool soft. before your surger? If so how many days prior did you?

Stool softener ?

I am planning on taking Milk of Magnesia. The meds and anesthesia makes me soooo constipated and have never taken anything for it before, but we are being pro-active this time. Just ask your doc.

Stool softener ?

I see no reason to take it ahead of time but I sure used it immediately after I got home. I had extensive repairs and needed the softeners. I am still using them every few days 7 weeks post op.

If you have to do a bowel prep then doing the softeners ahead of time will make no sense since you will be cleaning yourself out anyway.

Stool softener ?

I didn't take it beforehand nor did I need to use any afterwards.
I might be one of the luckier ones. I got by with eating oatmeal, yogurt, etc.. used a little prune juice if needed.. TONS of water, & I was OK..

Stool softener ?

I had extensive repairs to the back side and that is why I think I needed the stool softeners. I stopped them two days ago because I ran out and I will be getting more at Walgreens tomorrow.

Stool softener ?

I'm 8 days post op and haven't needed stool softeners. I've been eating a variety of fruit, oatmeal, bran bagels, fiber cereal, and orange juice for breakfast and that has done the trick for me.

Stool softener ?

I'm April 2 also (SAH) I am eating plenty fruit and veg and seeds like sunflower kernels and pumpkins and am aiming to dring loads of water post op. Probably worth having some softeners ready (I will add that to the list of stuff to take to the hospital!!!- will need a truck at this rate) Best wishes Cool2008

Stool softener ?

I didn't use them beforehand and definitely didn't take them to the hospital as they had them there to give me but have been religious with them once home. They are very helpful for me, especially since I haven't been able to eat much and certainly not in the way of fiber rich foods and such. Check with your doc if you will be doing a bowel prep or enema and make this one of your pre-op questions.
