Pain worse at five weeks post-op than at day one post op

I was just wondering if anyone has experienced worse pain at five week post-op than when they first went home after recovery? I had a total vaginal hysterectomy along with bowel, bladder and pelvic floor reconstruction and felt like flying at week two. I was careful to not allow myself to do much at all. Now at week five, I don't want to get out of bed and the pain seems to be increasing. I am still on pain meds and take four meds that are suppose to help me have bowel movements. Is this normal?

Thanks for any input, 32 yr old Hystersister~

Hi beannasandy
Welcome to Hystersisters! It doesn't sound normal for your pain to be increasing like this at five weeks. It should be getting better and not worse. Sometimes if you're up and doing too much it can be worse, but it will usually subside and be ok with rest.

Are you having trouble with bowel movements? I used a stool softener for several months to keep everything soft, but fresh fruit and other good fiber in my diet usually worked well for me. With all the repairs you had done this is important to keep under control. The pain meds could be contributing to constipation, if that's a problem.

I think you should call your dr and have all this checked out. You don't want to let it go in case there's something more going on here that might need treatment. Make sure you're drinking lots of water and really work at getting some good fiber in your diet. Let us know how you're doing.

What kind of pain are you experiencing? I had a lot of pain between the 4 to 6 week mark after having TVH and Rectocele repair, mine was a lower back pain, cramping and pressure type feeling. I had a bunch of tests done and they didn't show anything abnormal, I still have days where I feel this way and I am 9 weeks post op.

I too was pretty much pain free the first couple of weeks. Now I'm entering week 4 - and my fatigue and achiness is more prevalent. I wouldn't say its new pain, I think I'm just more aware of it. Heck, it's not really even pain. But yeah, given how easy the first couple weeks had been.. it now seems worse. But I suspect I'm actually far more within expected healing parameters now, and it's all relative.

I'm at 6 weeks post-op now and have been feeling more tired and having persistant right sided pain. I talked to my doctor yesterday. He ordered a blood test and CT (picture) of my abdomen. He called with the results today, and I have some kind of infection. I'm being re-admitted tonight for IV antibiotics. I'm mad at my body for not healing right the first time.

Listen to your body and if you are concerned, talk to your doctor!
