annoying BM issues

Okay this is somewhat of an embarassing topic but I am having almost a constant sensation of needing to have a BM. It's very irritating. I'm wondering if it is just the gas or something more because I tend to keep having multiple MINI BM's throughout the day. It's very annoying.

Is anyone else experiencing this?

Yes, I've had various issues around BMs since my 3/6 TAH.

What has helped the most is using a pillow on my stomach during these times, and find that I'm more effectively able to manage BMs as it gives me more ooomf.

I think different people experience different things - basically the body is normalizing and settling itself - it takes time. Surgery has a way of shaking things up. A lot of things seem out of wack. Hang in there.

I had that constant feeling and mini BM's also. Turns out behind those mini BM's I was constipated. It really got uncomfortable after a few days becasue even though I kept having mini ones I felt like something was in there. I called my Dr and they had me do an enema and after that the all day feeling and mini ones went away.

Just a thought........

Yes I am as well. I have been taking stool softeners because if I have to strain at all the toilet water turns red from bleeding fresh! Do you have tenderness on right side of abdomen too?

I have no tenderness on the right side...I do, however, have more swelling on the left side....I had already had my right ovary out in an earlier surgery and they took the left during this one so I figured that was why.....

Did you have your appendix out during your surgery? I am wondering because your right side pain makes me think of your appendix....keep an eye on that and if you get a fever, call the doc IMMEDIATELY

Heal well!!!

it gets better girls. I am 4 weeks post op TAH today, and I've been pooping normal for about a week. Be sure to drink a lot of water, that helps get things moving too. Unfortunately, I think the constipation is just part of it, and it can be very uncomfortable. It will get better soon.Take care!

I also experienced the feeling that I had to go all the time and had the mini-bm's. Yes, it is sooo annoying. I am 4 weeks and 2 days post op now and I think that stopped after week 2 or so. I still feel some urgency when I feel the need to go, but I'm sure that too will pass.

I have noticed that changing my diet has helped a LOT. I'm eating a lot of veggies, fruits (fresh), fiber foods, and little red meat (too much protein) and less carbs. I'm drinking a lot of water.

my doc said certain foods do cause a bit of constipation: white rice, teas (ice tea), white flour foods like pasta, breads. and beans give me gas!!! so I have been eating a lot of salads, veggie soups, steamed and cooked veggies, whole grains, chicken, fish. it makes a difference! like a big difference.

I agree with Daxlou! I have completely eliminated red meat and really increased the fruits and veggies! I am 3 1/2 weeks post-op and just now starting to get "regular". I still have abdominal pains before I end up in the bathroom though. This was a major shock to our systems and I think it takes a long time for our bodies to recover all it's normal functions.
