Endometrial ablation

Good morning
I am a rookie on this site so please be patient.
I am looking for any information on Endometrial ablation. I have a surgery date in May and have info on the procedure but not on what to expect physically. I would appreciate any info.

Endometrial ablation

Sue, I've had 2 ablations over the years. I was awake during the first (roller ball technique). It was a fascinating experience.

Anyway, physically I was a little sore afterwards, but it really wasn't bad. I was back at work within a couple days and doing fine. Do you have specific questions?

Endometrial ablation

Hi CMT
Thank you so much for your reply. I am a little curious about your age because I only want to do this once. I am 49 therefore not a great candidate for hysterectomy according to my dr.. I am not sure what method will be used but I guess that will be answered next month at the pre-op appointment. The Dr is one of little words so....I appreciate the information.

Endometrial ablation

Sue, I am 55 years old. Had the first ablation about 13 to 15 years ago and the last one January, 2007. I don't think the roller ball technique is used anymore. I can't remember what technique was used last January. The first procedure worked great for many years.

Endometrial ablation

Sue, I just want to add that most people, from what I understand, only have this procedure once. It is supposed to be rare to have this done twice.

I had endometriosis for many, many years and had many treatments for it including: Depot Provera, Lupron, Laparoscopy w/lazer and the 2 ablations. It was all done in the hope that someday menopause would happen and then I'd be fine. However, at age 55, I have not had the first sign of menopause, which is disappointing. I am now getting scheduled for a hysterectomy. The last ablation only lasted a year and now I am having issues again. I also have adenomyosis.

I have only good things to say about the first ablation I had. It worked wonders for me for a long time. Too bad menopause never happened for me.

Best of luck with your surgery.

Endometrial ablation

Hi Sue

My (rollerball) ablation was much easier than having my horrible monthly period. I had several other GYN problems, so I ended up with a hysterectomy anyway, but I was very glad I tried it. Well worth a morning of my time, that's for sure. My older sister and 2 of my neighbors had wonderful success from their ablations. I hope you do too.

Here's a good link to an Endometrial Ablation Discussion Group which might be helpful to you.

Good luck with your procedure.

Endometrial ablation

I hope that I am not breaking any rules by posting a link but my Dr wants to do an EA also and I found an amazing site about it (that is how I found this site)

Endometrial ablation

I just want to thank you all for your responses. You have certainly put my mind at rest and provided me with great resources. I have Lupus so my concern is not so much what I will be going through with the ablation( even though I did have some unanswered questions) but the effects after and the possibility of a flare.
Thanks again Ladies

Endometrial ablation

I had an EA 15 years ago, rollerball. It worked very well for many years. However, I started spotting again about 2 years ago and my fibroids have returned with a vengeance. This time, at 47, I am going to go with a hysterectomy. I have pain everywhere in my pelvic region/back/abdomen/legs and even suffer indigestion and bowel troubles.

Go for the EA with the idea that it MAY last forever and if not that, then a very long time.

Endometrial ablation

Thanks Elizadoo!
I am so sorry that you are dealing with the issues. Hysterectomy sounds like the best route and then you will be finished with all of this.

I was second guessing the EA but this month has confirmed that I need to do it.
Hope all goes will with you Elizadoo
